In my opinion, the best season of the year is upon us, and I’m ready to smell like I’m sipping hot apple cider by the fireplace on a crisp autumn day. Whether I actually have a fireplace is beside the point. Lucky for me, this season’s newest fragrances get it. There are warm, woody scents like Initio Parfums Privés Oud for Grace, which pairs oud and sandalwood with praline and vanilla, and Burberry Goddess Amber Vanilla, a mix of maple syrup, roasted vanilla and amber that practically begs to be worn with tall boots. But autumn fragrance doesn’t have to mean smelling woody. Aesop’s new Unforeseen Aer is crisp, green and mineral, with eucalyptus, geranium, lavandin and nutmeg that remind me of being outside on one of those windy October days.
From smoky ouds and spicy woods to creamy gourmands, fresh aromatics and, yes, plenty of vanilla, I went through hours of research (and a lot of sniffing) to find the best fall fragrances worth adding to your rotation by September, all vetted and reviewed by PureWow editors. Consider this your official permission to retire your light summer scent until next year.
