You can’t talk about TikTok without mentioning Charli D’Amelio. The 21-year-old grew a massive following for her dance videos, garnering more than 156 million fans. While she’s still prominent on the platform, D’Amelio is now showing off her dance skills on Broadway in &Juliet and is also a brand partner for CeraVe. I had a chance to chat with the star about everything from her skincare routine to her favorite Love Island couple to the one Gen-Z beauty trend she wishes would go away forever.

PureWow: What’s your skincare must-have?

Charli D’Amelio: [CeraVe] has always been there to help me get back to my normal [routine] and it’s shown me that less is more. You don’t always need to do the crazy hundred step skincare routine. Sometimes it just takes a good cleanser [like the Foaming Facial Cleanser] and moisturizer [like the Facial Moisturizing Lotion] to achieve the skin you want.

PW: What’s the best beauty advice you learned on Broadway?

CD: For the majority of the show, I would end up with bronzer and blush sweat marks down [my face] because we’re dancing hard. Sometimes the makeup doesn’t always hold up, so it’s been quite a journey of figuring out exactly what we [dancers] need to be able to have the best shows we can. My secret now is applying One/Size ‘Til Dawn Setting Spray and skipping primer. I personally find that a lot of primers clog my pores and upset my skin. Now, I just stick with my moisturizer as a base and setting spray.

PW: Any Gen-Z beauty trends you’re totally done with?

CD: A trend I wish would go away is the cortisol face, where you need these “eight products” to look your best. I’m so sick of that. Just take care of yourself the best you can. I don’t think that buying everything you see off the TikTok shop is needed to achieve the goals you want. Really, I do think less is more.

PW: Most important question: Favorite Love Island couple?

CD: Ooo that’s tough! Honestly, those Nicolandria edits…The way he looks at her. It’s beautiful. But I also love Amaya. I love all the friendships and all the love we’ve gotten to see. I know what it’s like to be someone that people like to talk about, and I just hope that they’re all doing OK and are able to get through the confusing, difficult time of becoming known online and taking the hate that comes with it.
