But what do I think Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue smells like? Let’s just say, a one way ticket to the Mediterranean, specifically on a yacht, sipping a limoncello. The brand’s fragrance description is right on the nose: “The sensuality of sunkissed skin, the invigorating breeze of the Mediterranean, and the fruity and floral scents from lush vegetation.” And although it opens with apple, the Sicilian lemon is truly the star of the show. It's a sweet, citrusy scent that’s not overpowering and settles into a cedarwood vibe later in the day.
As for the pungency, since it’s an eau de toilette, it has a lower concentration of fragrance oils, which means it fades from the skin quicker. A neat trick to combat that is to spray at least twice on each targeted area (i.e., inner wrists, behind the ears, neck, creases of elbow, etc). After testing it on both dry and damp skin, I would recommend applying it on the latter and layering on body lotion (or oil) with similar scent notes beforehand to help the fragrance last longer.
The bottle is just as luxurious as the scent itself, thanks to frosted glass, minimal lettering and the signature blue cap. I also appreciate that it’s refillable and comes in multiple sizes, including a travel one for my manifesting trips to Italy and Greece.
The Bottom Line: Will Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Really Get You All the Compliments?
Absolutely. It’s summer in a bottle, but also a perfume I can use for daily wear. It’s light, fresh and at a price point I don’t feel guilty about. Will it make me crave the coasts of Italy? Probably. But what doesn’t these days?
