Fall already has me ready to change my hair color (Billionaire Brunette, anyone?), and now I want a runway-approved style to match. I chatted with top celebrity hairstylists and got the inside scoop on the trendiest haircuts and hairstyles we’re about to see everywhere this fall. So if you want to get a head start on your next look, here are the top eight fall hair trends to request at your next appointment, from blowouts, bobs and mullets.

Meet the Experts

  • Davontae Washington is a celebrity hairstylist who specializes in wigs, hair extensions and bombshell blowouts. His work has been featured in numerous publications, red carpets and brand campaigns. His previous clients include Kim Kardashian, Victoria Monét, Ciara and Keke Palmer.
  • Jessica Ruby Spratt is a celebrity stylist and salon owner of The Flamingo Lounge in Los Angeles and New York City. With over 20 years of experience, she combines razor-sharp techniques with a playful, Y2K-meets-editorial aesthetic. She’s known for her precision cuts, vibrant color work. Her previous clients include Lana Del Ray, Meg Myers and David Byrne.
  • Nicolas Flores is a celebrity hairstylist and owner of Flore Los Angeles salon. He specializes in trendy cuts, hair transformations and voluminous blowouts. His previous clients include Whitney Port, Sofia Richie and Lisa Rinna.

1. Effortless Layers

Fall calls for low-maintenance styles, and Washington predicts this effortless look for the upcoming season. “This is a soft, face-framing cut that grazes the cheekbones and jawline in the most flattering way. It’s the ultimate fall ‘off-duty model’ vibe that works for all hair types,” he shares. In order to achieve Victoria Monet’s concert-ready layers, the expert recommends a multi-styler (like BaBylissPRO) to flip the ends for an undone-but-intentional finish. “I would add a slight bevel for straight hair and shape layers that fall perfectly around the face for those with curly/coily hair,” he adds.

2. Bombshell Blowout

Washington and I agree that the ever-popular bouncy blowout isn’t going anywhere this season. He shares, “The ‘Bombshell Blowout’ is all about big, bouncy hair that moves like it has its own publicist. It’s the perfect fall glam— pairs beautifully with layers, leather and a latte— and works on every hair type, whether I’m over-directing straight hair for extra height or blowing out curly/coily hair with tension first.” And if you need a boost after a few days, the stylist suggests using a hair dryer and large round brush to add a bit more lift and volume back to your locks—plus, applying a volumizing mousse, heat protectant and shine spray for a glossy finish.

3. Modern Mullet

Whether you love or hate it, mullets are here to stay. I predicted, and it’s coming back in full force this fall. According to Spratt, it’s customizable and inclusive for all hair types. It involves sharp cuts on the sides with softness in the back. If you want to add some definition, the stylist suggests a texture paste or a volumizing spray

4. Shattered Bob

You didn’t think I would make a trend piece and not include a bob did you? Autumn will be seeing this trendy look, which both Hailey Bieber and Florence Pugh have been spotted sporting in the past. As Spratt explains, “It’s a jagged, razor-cut bob with soft ends and tons of movement. It’s great with a lived-in texture spray or a diffused blowout.”

5. Layered Lob

Flores believes this layered lob is going to be the most requested haircut of the season. He explains, “Clients are wanting to mix up their look with the season and refresh the cut they got back in the spring. They are either growing out their bob or need a change from super long locks to something that is less maintenance.” The key to this haircut is adding face-framing layers to contour the face and long layers in the back to create movement.

6. Airy Shag

Wands predicts this shaggy haircut is going to be a hit for curly and wavy folks. She tells me, “It’s a modern shag with soft, airy layers and movement, sitting between collarbone and chest. Fringe optional.” Popularized by celebs like Debby Ryan, Matilda Djerf and Zendaya, this look provides face-framing softness and volume. If you’re looking to achieve Ryan’s rockstar look, the expert suggests a sea salt spray for texture and body, along with a styling cream for definition and soft hold.

7. Glossy Low Knot

The sleek low ponytail was all the rage last fall, and this time around, we’re going for a glossy bun instead. “It’s minimal, chic and transitions seamlessly from office to evening,” says Wands. Whether you prefer a side part or clean center, the stylist recommends straightening your hair using a blow dryer before using a boar brush to smooth down your locks. What’s the secret to achieving Bella Hadid’s glossy bun? A shine wax and a strong-hold hairspray to set your hairdo in place.

8. Blowout Bob

High-shine haircuts are having a moment right now and this voluminous bob is on Capri’s mind. “It feels elevated and chic, perfect sweater weather styling,” she says. “It’s ideal for straight to wavy hair, but curls can achieve it with smoothing techniques.” The trendy cut is known for its polished look, chin-length and super sleek appearance—like Julianne Hough’s bob at the Tony’s. Capri notes a hair dryer (like the AirLight Pro) can offer a nice blowout, while the shine serum can provide a silky, smooth finish.
