This summer may very well have been one of the most stressful times for my skin. Incessant sun, frequent travel, the hopping between extremes of sauna-like outdoor air and frigid rooms pumped with A/C. Throw in a cross-country move and an inconsistent skincare routine and my face was looking dull, dry, droopy and discolored by late June. Splotchy redness, under-eye bags, puffiness, breakouts—I had it all. So when I was offered the chance to try the iRestore Illumina LED mask (which is marked down a whopping $400, from $799 to $399, for Black Friday), I didn’t think twice—it seemed to be exactly what I needed to reset my complexion and get my routine back on track.
My fellow PureWow editors and I have long sworn by LED masks—and we’ve put plenty to the test over the years. But many only offer a single wavelength of light: red. Which, to be fair, is the color you’d want to bask in if you’re hoping for anti-aging benefits like wrinkle reduction and collagen production. What really intrigued me about the iRestore Illumina was its inclusion of two other wavelengths—blue and infrared—as well as its setting that combines all three to address multiple skincare concerns at once.
Clearly, this mask takes things up a notch. As it should, considering its price point is on the higher end of the spectrum (no pun intended). But is it actually effective? After two months of testing—which I don’t plan to stop anytime soon—here’s my honest review.
