We recently reviewed Rhode’s most viral products: Peptide Lip Shape and Peptide Lip Tint, but I thought it was time to try a few other top sellers from the brand. I’m always a bit skeptical of celebrity brands (as you probably know, Rhode is helmed by Hailey Bieber), so I was curious to see if the brand really lives up to the hype. Here’s my very honest review of the buzzy brand.

What Is Rhode Beauty?

Rhode Beauty was founded by Hailey Bieber on June 15, 2022. The brand strives to create essential products for all skin types, using key ingredients like peptides, shea butter and niacinamide. It first debuted as a skincare brand, releasing three key products like the Peptide Lip Treatment, Peptide Glazing Fluid and Barrier Restore Cream. Three years later, it has since expanded to makeup with the Pocket Blush, Peptide Lip Tint and Peptide Lip Shape. “Rhode is dedicated to making products based in science and great formulation, simplifying many of the mysteries and complex narratives behind efficacious skincare,” she writes on her site

How I Tested Rhode Beauty Collection

Based on the best sellers list on the brand’s website, I went with two makeup favorites (Pocket Blush and Lip Tint) and four skincare hybrids (Glazing Milk, Barrier Butter, Daily Cleanser and Lip Treatment). I spent time with each product, following their instructions on how to apply it on my skin/lips. From there, I paid close attention to its quality, ease of use and finish to come up with my honest review of Rhode Beauty.

My Review of Rhode Beauty

1. Rhode Beauty Peptide Lip Tint

What We Like

  • offers high-shine
  • moisturizing
  • subtle tint

What We Don't Like

  • messy applicator
  • gritty texture

Rhode Beauty

This lip tint doesn’t mess around when it comes to the shine. It has a rich formula that makes my lips so glossy. It does have a weird grainy texture at first, but slowly goes away and melts nicely on my lips. It’s formulated with shea butter to lock in moisture, peptides to visibly plump, cupuaçu to maintain skin elasticity and babassu oil to replenish skin’s moisture. I tried the “Espresso” shade and it leaves a subtle tint that works well with layering with other lip products or by itself—even adding just a lip liner for a full look. I wore it alone for a couple hours and didn’t find it at all tacky or uncomfortable. Whether I wiped it off or drank some water, my lips still felt soft and hydrated.

2. Rhode Beauty Peptide Lip Treatment

What We Like

  • nourishing
  • great for dry lips
  • long-lasting

What We Don't Like

  • subtle scent

Rhode Beauty

I was very interested in trying their most viral product—you know, the one with the compatible trendy phone case. While I was unfortunately case-less, the lip treatment does live up to the hype all on its own. It has similar ingredients to the lip tint, so it was nourishing, retained moisture and visibly plumped my pout. It comes in four scents, and I tested the “Watermelon Slice,” which has a very subtle fragrance that’s not at all overpowering. I did experience the gritty texture here, but again, once you let it sit for a bit (or rub your lips together) it tends to go away.

3. Rhode Beauty Pocket Blush

What We Like

  • great color payoff
  • compact design
  • blends well

What We Don't Like

  • not really 'pocket-friendly'

Rhode Beauty

The internet's rave reviews of the Pocket Blush are what enticed me to give Rhode a chance. A former editor wrote in her review that the blush offered her a smooth application and a flush of color that was oh-so flattering. I tried “Sleepy Girl,” a soft mauve shade that complemented my skin tone. Like many mentioned, a little goes a long way. All I needed was a dot of product and started blending it upwards with a brush, or even my finger. It has a creamy texture that’s buildable and layers well with other makeup. As someone with textured skin, I was surprised to see how it melted nicely, leaving a soft, satiny finish minus any greasiness. With key ingredients like peptides and tamanu oil, it can also be used on the lips, which was comfortable, lightweight and left a nice rosy shade on my pout.

4. Rhode Beauty Pineapple Refresh The Daily Cleanser

What We Like

  • removes makeup, dirt and oil
  • gentle for sensitive skin
  • fragrance-free

What We Don't Like

  • not much of a lather

Rhode Beauty

I have sensitive skin, so I’ll admit I was wary to try a cleanser that’s labelled as ‘pineapple refresh.’ I was fully expecting it to be fruity and overpowering, but never judge a book (er, cleanser) by its cover, folks. The formula has polyglutamic acid, green tea extract and pineapple enzyme, which is gentle and nourishing on my skin. The brand suggests a dime-sized amount before rubbing your hands together to create a lather. I did notice a foamy lather, but it quickly went away once it was on my face. I would say the amount was enough to cover and cleanse my entire face. It also removed all my makeup, dirt and SPF with no problem. Some acid-based cleansers usually dry out my skin, but I was pleasantly surprised (again) that it maintained softness and suppleness before I even finish the rest of my skincare routine. Also the 5 fl oz bottle is enough to last me a while—and no lasting fragrance at all!

5. Rhode Beauty Glazing Milk

What We Like

  • fast-absorbing
  • calms skin

What We Don't Like

  • thick texture
  • a bit drying

Rhode Beauty

Another viral product I kept seeing on my timeline is the Glazing Milk. Coined as a lightweight essence, it lives up to its name. It has a milky texture that’s a bit thick, but once I started patting it gently onto my face, it absorbed quickly. It has ceramides to boost the skin’s barrier, along with a magnesium, zinc, copper blend that aims to protect and plump skin. You’ll also find beta-glucan, a fiber known to lock in moisture and calm irritated areas. It claims it can reduce the appearance of redness over time, which I’m interested in seeing as I experience redness along my cheeks. I can see why many use it as a prep for makeup or a key component in a skincare routine as it’s fast-absorbing and works well with other products. It did feel a bit drying, but it’s recommended to follow it with the moisturizer (which I’ll get to in a sec).

6. Rhode Beauty Barrier Butter

What We Like

  • great for dry skin
  • locks in moisture
  • offers a subtle glow

What We Don't Like

  • thick texture
  • takes a while to rub in

Rhode Beauty

FYI: This moisture balm has a thick texture that reminds me of body butter, which can be both a good and bad thing. It’s good for the colder months, if you have dry skin (like me) or are looking for a night moisturizer. According to the brand, it can also seal in moisture for up to 24 hours—thanks to a mix of hyaluronic acid, polyglutamic acid, murumuru butter and ceramides. While its main purpose is for your face, you can apply it anywhere—knees, elbows, hands, etc. I actually liked it for the body and less for the face due to its rich texture, so it might not be a hit for oily and/or sensitive skin. It’s not heavy per say, but feels a bit greasy even after a few hours. I did notice a radiant glow, which will surely keep me looking toned and glass-like. Similar to the Daily Cleanser, the 5 fl oz tube will be enough for a month or so.

The Bottom Line: Is Rhode Beauty a Celebrity-Owned Brand Worth Checking Out?

Rhode Beauty

As someone who wasn’t a big fan of the Peptide Lip Shape, I was pleasantly surprised to find some good picks from Rhode. My standout products have to be Peptide Lip Treatment and The Daily Cleanser as they were both nourishing and work well with my skin type. All the products were gentle, fragrance-free and moisturizing. The prices are pretty reasonable, ranging from $18 to $38. While the packaging is minimal, I do enjoy the different colors that will surely stand out in my beauty cabinet—especially the Peptide Lip Tints matching with their key shades. Overall, Hailey actually did her thing here and is most definitely worthy of the viral badge.
