This month, PureWow launched its inaugural book club in conversation with New York Times bestselling author Jessica Knoll. On a sunny and unseasonably warm autumn evening, members of the literary community gathered at the sunlit JACK Studios (@jackstudios) in Chelsea, where the windows offered a sprawling view of Manhattan and the setting sun. Guests sipped on Freixenet sparkling wine and spritzes and sported their PureWow book club totes, along with signed copies of the novel and maroon baseball caps that read "Complex Character." (Aren't we all?) PureWow Editor-in-Chief Jillian Quint then moderated a discussion on Knoll's latest novel, Helpless, where she and Knoll talked about the author's writing process, writing unlikeable characters, where she gets her inspiration and the idea of how the performance of femininity and feminism intersect.
