When it comes to new movies on Netflix, there always seems to be a new title taking over the conversation. The year kicked off with the action-packed Matt Damon and Ben Affleck movie The Rip, followed by the polarizing Kevin Hart-led comedy 72 Hours. Now, the streamer’s number one movie is hitting viewers right in the feels and leaving plenty of them an emotional wreck. The film? Tyler Perry’s Doing Life.

Doing Life is a dramatic story about survival, redemption and the power of second chances. The movie follows Anika (Naomi Baker), a former corrections officer and struggling single mom who is dealing with serious financial challenges while raising her baby and working toward a nursing degree. Her life takes an unexpected turn after she crosses paths with Carousel (Jay Reeves), an inmate who protects her during a violent prison riot.

After serving a 10-year sentence for attempted murder, Carousel is released on parole and tracks down Anika in hopes of starting over. The two eventually develop an unlikely romance, but building a future together is anything but easy. They have to reckon with their pasts while also facing plenty of skepticism from Anika’s family. Still, they support each other as they try to prove that a person’s past does not have to define their future.

Netflix released the movie on October 2, and over the weekend, viewers took to social media to share just how emotional the film made them.

"Doing Life got me ugly crying this morning. I can't take it," one user on X wrote. Another shared that the movie "has me in tears man wtfffffff," while a third said the movie "made me cry like 3x."

And while the tears are clearly flowing, viewers are also giving the movie plenty of credit for its story.

"The story, the performances, and the humanity that touches your heart made it a great watch," one viewer wrote on Rotten Tomatoes. Another said they were "Interested from beginning to end. Great date movie," while a third chimed in, "Easy watch and feel good movie."

Doing Life is streaming now on Netflix.
