This Jennifer Garner-Led Hit Series Was Just Officially Renewed for Season 2

It's official: After winning over audiences with its dreamy Nantucket backdrop and deep dive into the intricacies of female friendship, The Five Star Weekend has been renewed for a second season on Peacock. The Jennifer Garner-led series has become the network's number one scripted series of all time, with 1.8 billion minutes watched. Yesterday, the actress took to Instagram to share the good news, featuring a photo of herself covering her mouth in disbelief, surrounded by fan comments asking for a second season. The caption was simple: "Season 2."

The project was originally slated to be a limited series, though the show's creator, Bekah Brunstetter, had expressed interest in expanding the story, per Variety. The Five Star Weekend ranked in the top five original streaming series during its first two weeks on air, according to Nielsen data, and its success shot novelist Elin Hilderbrand's 2023 book, on which the series is based, back to the top ten on the New York Times bestseller list.

“It’s such a joy and privilege to create a world that people want to keep living in,” Brunstetter said in a statement released by Peacock. “I’m so thrilled by the chance to give fans of the show more time with the stars, and dig even further into these incredible characters. Knowing how deeply committed they are to this trip, I can’t wait to take them on their next adventure.” 

The first season followed Garner as Hollis Shaw, a widow grieving the recent death of her husband. In a bid to move forward with her life, she invites four friends to her Nantucket beach house for a weekend, envisioning a perfect, five-star stay. Things quickly go awry as personalities clash and big, emotional plot twists throw the characters' worlds askew. Garner was joined by D’Arcy Carden, Gemma Chan, Regina Hall and Chloë Sevigny, who play Hollis's friends from different seasons of her life, in addition to Harlow Jane as her daughter and Timothy Olyphant as an old flame.
