This Action-Packed Thriller Just Hit #1 on Netflix and the Trailer Alone Is Giving Me Goosebumps

Definitely seems intense

From Taken to Retribution, I’m always game for a Liam Neeson thriller, and there is a new one on my list that is currently making waves on Netflix.

Ice Road: Vengeance is the latest release in the genre from the 73-year-old star, and it currently holds the number one spot on the platform. A sequel to 2021’s The Ice Road, Neeson reprises his role as Mike McCann, an American ice road trucker. This time, a grieving McCann travels to Nepal to fulfill his late brother's final wish of having his ashes scattered on Mt. Everest. While there, he meets a skilled local Everest guide, and together they join a group of passengers aboard the Kiwi Express tour bus.

But it wouldn't be a Liam Neeson movie without some hard-hitting action, which is exactly what viewers get when the bus is hijacked by two mercenaries in an attempt to kidnap one of the passengers. The trailer alone gives me goosebumps as it shows the hijacking in action in chilling temperatures, and Neeson kicking butt as usual.

The film is directed by Jonathan Hensleigh, who also directed The Ice Road, which was heavily inspired by the 1953 film The Wages of Fear, an action-thriller based on Georges Arnaud’s 1950 novel of the same title. Released in July, the follow-up actually has relatively low ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 17 percent on the Tomatometer and 28 percent on the Popcornmeter. Despite its low score, however, many audience members are gaining a new appreciation for it two months after its initial release, with one reviewer writing, “This is a remarkable and uplifting movie! It’s one that everyone must see. As usual, Liam Neeson delivers an amazing acting and heroic performance."

Another adds, "A great endless action flick that doesn't need much thought or effort. Easy to watch, good pacing and plenty of action. Liam Neeson is his usual high-quality self, with introductions to younger actors pulling their weight. You don't even need to have seen the first one. Give it a try, it's much better than these reviews give it credit for."

Say no more, I’m adding to my weekend watchlist right now.
