5 Hit Shows That Were Just Renewed (and 1 That Surprisingly Got the Axe)

There have been plenty of great shows that were canceled in recent years (Yellowstone, The Sex Lives of College Girls). But even in the last few months, some of my faves have gotten the chop (ugh, I miss The Boroughs already). So, naturally, I've been worried that more of my top watches might not be renewed for a new season.

Fortunately, in recent weeks, we've gotten a slew of renewal announcements (yay, more Artful Dodger!). Here, five stellar shows that have been renewed for one more season—plus one fan-favorite that was canceled way too soon.

Praise be! Jennifer Garner and the rest of this fabulous cast will be back for season two. Just yesterday, J-Gar shared the big news on Instagram with a photo of herself looking shocked. The announcement shouldn't be too shocking, Jen, since the show is Peacock's top scripted series ever.

The Five Star Weekend features five star actresses playing five secret-loving friends who spend a weekend away together in Nantucket. The scenery is delightful, and the drama is delicious. Here's hoping Garner's character has forgiven Gemma Chan's character before the next season rolls around...

A few short weeks ago, it was revealed that this soapy series will be coming back to The CW for an impressive fifth season. Filming is set to begin shortly on the latest iteration, with a premiere date expected sometime in 2027.

Sullivan's Crossing is based on the book series by Robyn Carr (also the author of Virgin River) and stars Chad Michael Murray of One Tree Hill fame. The story follows a neurosurgeon who moves back to her Nova Scotia hometown, where romance, drama and some really fun twists await.

On July 29, ABC revealed that everyone's favorite singing competition (sorry, The Voice) will be coming back for a 25th season, with auditions beginning this summer. Season 24 featured Ryan Seacrest as host and Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan as judges, but that lineup could always change before the new season begins.

The long-running series initially debuted on Fox back in 2002 (and gave us a star in first-ever winner Kelly Clarkson). It shifted over to ABC for a reboot in 2018, where it's remained for the last eight years. The most recent season gave us a new country singer champion (a la Underwood herself), Hannah Harper.

This renewal news is a bit of a mixed-bag for fans—yes, The Artful Dodger is returning for season three, but that'll be the show's final season. The Disney+ series has been delighting viewers since 2023 with its post-Oliver Twist story line about the iconic Charles Dickens criminals, the Dodger and Fagin.

The show's star, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, might "actually" look quite familiar to you. He previously appeared in The Maze Runner and The Queen's Gambit. But he's likely most recognizable for playing Liam Neeson's drummer stepson in the holiday classic Love, Actually.

I don't blame you if you're a bit confused with this one. There was the 1976 Anne Rice book. There was the 1994 Brad Pitt film. Then, this series dropped in 2022, under the name Interview with the Vampire. But for its most recent third season, it changed its name to The Vampire Lestat. And now, it's been renewed for a fourth season where the name will change once more to Queen of the Damned. (Both name changes reflect additional Rice book series titles so it makes sense.)

According to AMC execs, “We can’t wait to continue the journey with Queen of the Damned, one of the most iconic stories in Anne Rice’s mythology, and watch our established and beloved characters confront Akasha [the aforementioned Queen of the Damned] with their world, and ours, very much hanging in the balance.”

I saved the bad news for last: Disney has officially pulled the plug on the Marvel series Wonder Man. The show was originally picked up for a second season back in March, but this week, the Mouse House reversed that renewal. And fans aren't the only ones who are devastated. The show's co-creator Destin Daniel Cretton said, "I’m heartbroken about it." If Cretton's name sounds familiar, it's because he just directed the massive Marvel hit, Spider-Man: Brand New Day (something tells me his spidey-money will help him get over the bad news).

Wonder Man follows a struggling actor who obviously also possesses superpowers. The one-season wonder stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley.
