It's only been a few short weeks since we got the great news that The Five Star Weekend was being renewed for season two. And now, we've got another streaming update: Five buzzy shows have been given the green light for an additional season. The list includes thrillers, like my favorite show on streaming right now, and star-led dramas, like one of my top picks of 2024.
Here, five incredible shows that have just been renewed, plus one that sadly got canceled instead.
Soapy, steamy, Sterling. This mega-hit on Prime Video drew massive audiences and plenty of buzz online. The romantic drama is in the same vein as Off Campus and Every Year After, both of which were renewed for second seasons as well.
The show follows a 17-year-old who inherits her grandfather's island in Canada. The big city girl travels to Sterling Point to see what all the fuss is about, and there she finds friendship, love and a whole slew of drama.
According to the show's creator, “We worked so hard to make the show as authentic as possible and to see audiences respond to that has been thrilling. We cannot wait to dive deeper into these characters and deliver the best second season ever.”
I'm obsessed with this Emmy Rossum-led thriller series—and clearly I'm not alone, as Furious was just renewed for a sophomore season. Rossum herself shared the news on Instagram with a video, saying, "I am thrilled to officially announce that Furious has been renewed for a second season. We are so overwhelmed and grateful for the love and support you have shown for our first season."
The show follows a new member of the FBI (Rossum) who is pulled away from her pencil-pushing desk job to solve a series of murders perpetrated by a female serial killer (Lola Petticrew). 10/10, no notes—this show is great.
This Theo James series about a mega-rich family that gets drawn into the world of gangsters and drug lords was one of my favorite shows of 2024 when the first season dropped on Netflix. The second season is set to premiere on the streamer this week. But before the sophomore season even arrived, Netflix revealed that the show will be getting a third season as well.
According to creator and director Guy Ritchie, “The ambition of The Gentlemen has accelerated, the world has expanded and the consequences carry weight. A third season felt inevitable, and I’m looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further.”
This horror origin story series made major headlines when it first debuted in October 2025. And fans of the super scary show about a terrifying killer clown named Pennywise will be happy to learn that there is even more blood and terror heading to HBO.
According to one HBO exec, “We know It: Welcome to Derry will continue to captivate viewers with its spine-tingling new journey into the 1930s for Season 2. We look forward to bringing fans back to the town of Derry to experience the next chapter and uncover even more of what lies beneath the surface.”
This bizarre and clever Big Bang Theory spinoff follows a comic book store owner named Stuart who accidentally triggers the apocalypse. As the show's title implies, things don't exactly go smoothly for Stuart as he attempts to repair the multiverse.
In an impressive feat, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe received its renewal notice after airing only four episodes of its first season on HBO. The streamer's EVP of Programming said, “We’re delighted with how this hilarious, genre-bending show from Chuck [Lorre], Zak [Penn], and Bill [Prady] has connected with the audience, both devotees of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ and new fans alike.”
Normally, I love a Mindy Kaling show (hello, Mindy Project and Sex Lives of College Girls?!). But after five minutes of watching the Kaling-created Not Suitable for Work, I said, "This is not for me," and I switched it off. Sadly for those who did like it, the execs at Hulu have decided not to give it a second season. There is a tiny glimmer of hope though. According to Variety, "Warner Bros. TV, which produces the series, plans to shop it to potential new homes." (HBO, maybe?!)
The comedy follows five twenty-somethings living and working in New York City. The plot does sound an awful lot like that of Adults (on Hulu by way of FX), which has done a heck of a lot better, achieving critical acclaim and a second season.
