I'm an Entertainment Editor and I Was Totally Wrong About Taylor Swift

Whoops...

Friday is the day, folks: The Life of a Showgirl is finally arriving this week. And while I can’t wait to dive in headfirst to Taylor’s (and my) showgirl era, I also have to make a confession: I was totally wrong about her.

As an entertainment editor, it’s my job to have my finger on the pulse of who’s hot and who’s “taking a break” at any given moment. Usually, I’m correct. And just two months ago, I predicted that Taylor Swift would be taking a break. After all, she deserves it.

The Eras Tour ran from March 2023 to December 2024 (and it came with a movie). She rerecorded four albums, got ownership of her music back and became a billionaire. And she found love on the bleachers in the skybox of Travis’s Chiefs games. I’m tired for her. So, I thought we’d be hearing less about T.Swift and more about other worthy divas: Bey, Gaga, literally anybody. But. I. Was. Wrong.

The woman truly is unstoppable.

She announced an album. She announced an engagement. She drops said album Friday. She’s planning her wedding. There are even rumors she’ll be on SNL when Sabrina Carpenter hosts on October 18 (after all, they have a collab on the new album). So, while 2023 was the year of Taylor and 2024 was the year of Taylor, it’s looking like 2025…and 2026…will also be the years of Taylor.

Friday's album release is clearly just the beginning. Will we get another tour? Almost certainly. Will we get another movie (besides the one that also comes out Friday)? Highly likely. Will Taylor and Travis’s wedding be the American equivalent of Meghan and Harry’s royal wedding? Without question. Will they immediately catch baby fever? Travis may already have it.

But perhaps the biggest question: Will all of this lead to Taylor fatigue? This time I think I’ll decline to make a prediction.
