1. Goomi
Goomi was the latest villain to grace the Minions franchise, and is actually an acronym for Gary Orkam Oliver Magma Ichabod the Deceiver. Talk about a mouthful. Even though he's supposedly the bad guy, Goomi is hilarious. For one, his head squeaks when the Minions press on it. He has face tendrils. He's basically wearing a toga and is a pip-squeak version of the imposing and terrifying Cthulhu dreamt up by science fiction-horror writer H.P. Lovecraft that was promised to the Minions in their spell book.
All you need for this silly costume is an oversized white dress or robe, and to say "Rolls off the face tendrils. Jamessssssssss..." BYOB(ad guy in the form of your choosing). Call Irene, maybe?
Shop similar styles: Long Nightgown ($30; $20); Green Face Paint ($8)
2. Chanty Beluga
The latest internet sensation is the mythical Chanty Beluga, a fake persona animated by comedian Courtney O'Donnell. Chanty's just living her life—getting coffee, switching to Verizon and buying weird Facebook Marketplace finds, cheerfully saying, "Hi, I'm Chanty Beluga!" Her vibes are Midwest Millennial circa 2016, so think ankle boots, mini sundresses à la Urban Outfitters and blonde hair with a slightly beachy wave.
Shop similar styles: Peep-Toe Heeled Sandals ($40); Floral Mini Sundress ($27); Blonde Wig ($24)
3. Odysseus Tied to the Mast
The Odyssey is arguably a very serious text, and Christopher Nolan's adaptation dramatic. However, the scene in which our titular hero is tied to the mast of his ship while listening to the sirens' songs has spawned many a meme, and if this is your costume, you may well do the same. Tortured thoughts, war crime regrets and a yearning for home not included.
Shop similar styles: Linen Underdress ($30; $28); Hemp Rope ($30)
4. Guy Fieri
There's something about the Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives host that makes him immediately endearing and an epically funny Halloween costume. Maybe it's the spiky hair. Or is it the goatee? Definitely the sunglasses. Throw on a plaid button-up and some jeans, and the outfit is complete. Red convertible optional but highly encouraged.
Shop similar styles: Flaming Hawaiian Shirt ($20); Flaming Visor and Wig ($15)
5. Jeremy Allen White in a Calvin Klein Ad
The internet lost its mind when JAW graced Calvin Klein billboards everywhere. The red corduroy couch was listed as a stunt by Facebook on the app's marketplace for $0, furthering the virality. (Humorously, The Bear star wasn't interested in taking it home himself.) For a cool $72, you can pick up seven briefs for yourself. As for the chiseled abs...you're on your own.
Shop similar styles: Calvin Klein Boxer Briefs ($90; $72)
6. Mr. Collins from Pride and Prejudice
One of the funniest characters in the world of Jane Austen is undoubtedly Mr. Collins, who obsequiously goes out of his way to commend his cousins for the excellent boiled potatoes. Deliver that line deadpan and you're sure to get a lot of laughs. Potatoes and a copy of Fordyce's Sermons not included.
Shop similar styles: Colonial Men's Costume ($55)
7. Dumb Ways to Die Victim
This PSA sponsored by Metro Trains in Melbourne debuted in 2012 and it's still one of the most hilarious things on the internet. In it, various jelly bean-shaped characters explore dumb ways to die. Notably: setting fire to one's hair, poking a stick at a grizzly bear, using one's private parts as piranha bait, dressing up like a moose during hunting season, selling both your kidneys on the internet. The options abound, and if you're not singing along by the time the video is over, you're doing it wrong.
Shop similar styles: Spandex Bodysuit ($35; $27); Moose Headband ($12); Piranha Figurine ($11; $9)

11. Willy Wonka

With a sash and crown, of course. If desired, you can take a page from Miss Congeniality with a pink gown and a sash that says “F.B.I.” Don't forget that wearing this costume mandates a recitation of "S.I.N.G." (That's solar plexus, instep, nose and groin for those who've forgotten.)

Say it with me: “We are going! To steal! The moon!” The Despicable Me franchise is my favorite ever, and if Minions are on this list, then you bet it’s incomplete without their beloved leader, Gru. Black suit, black and gray striped scarf, pointy nose…now all you need is a fart gun.
