Kitten-heel boots and two-tone shoes may be trending this fall, but no matter how polished you are, everyone can use a solid pair of slip-ons. Preferably extra-comfortable ones that aren’t too bulky or (heaven forbid) orthopedic looking. Because sometimes you realize you’re five minutes late for drop-off, you’ve got to grab that package outside before a downpour hits or you just survived leg day and bending down to tie your shoes just isn’t going to happen. You need fast, easy, convenient—and that’s how I found myself staring at Cozy Earth’s Lakehouse clogs ($128).

With ‘cozy’ in the brand’s name, there’s a lot to live up to. And after hearing colleagues swear that the brand’s pajamas, sheets and cuddle blankets exceeded the hype online, I had to put its shoes to the PureWow100 test. Here’s how they fared.

How I Tested Cozy Earth’s Lakehouse Clogs

Using the PureWow100 scale, I wore the clogs daily for two weeks—logging up to 10,000 steps a day—and evaluated them on the following criteria:

  • Value: Considering the qualities above and the price, are the shoes worth the money?
  • Design: Are the clogs stylish? What are the color options? Are they good for everyday wear, or would I be embarrassed to be seen outside in them?
  • Comfort: What kind of cushioning and support does the shoe provide? How far could I walk before the clogs start to bother me?
  • Fit: Do they run true to size? Are they snug? Do they constantly slip off?
  • Durability: After constant use, multiple days in a row, I looked at how much wear-and-tear the shoes showed on the sole and exterior, and if they scuffed or stained easily.

My Review of the Cozy Earth Lakehouse Clogs

Honestly, these clogs are as close to outdoor slippers as I’ve found, without being overtly plush. As someone with wide feet and high arches, shopping for shoes can be a pain, so I was delighted to see that these ran true to size (if not a little large) with a wide toe box. The cushioned suede footbed provided just the right mix of springiness and support, and it was just roomy enough that I could wear thick socks without squishing my toes.

While the brand describes the 100 percent Italian wool upper as “durable,” I was worried the chestnut shade I chose would show wear easily. In fact, I thought I ruined them on day two, when someone on the train spilled iced coffee across the left shoe. Thankfully, after spot-treating it with a damp cloth, as Cozy Earth recommends, I could blot it away without a trace. (Italian wool is also known for retaining warmth, which I found true on chilly mornings as I walked my daughter to school.)

Design-wise, I was drawn to the minimalist aesthetic. While they, like all clogs, have a certain duck-bill quality to them, these didn’t feel as bulky or dowdy as other styles I’ve worn. Would I be wearing it with dresses for a night out? Nah. But that’s not the purpose of these shoes anyway.

The One Thing Worth Noting

Their purpose is comfort, and they live up to that. They’re ideal for running errands and casual weekends, though I would probably stick to sneakers for a day spent playing tourist around town. They were padded and comfortable, but I found that if I walked for a stretch of two miles or more in them, the balls of my feet would start to feel a bit chafed, particularly with socks. That may be due to the break-in period—or my insistence on walking all day, every day in them while testing—but it’s worth noting.

The Bottom Line: I Will Be Wearing These Daily This Fall

The Lakehouse clog is the ideal dash-out-the-door shoe, living up to the “cozy” name and then some. At $128, they’re not cheap, but once you feel the support and padding of the sole, you immediately see the difference between it and similar $50 to $70 clogs sold online. Better yet, I can see these lasting me a few years, even if I do walk all day in them.
