It feels more relatable than a custom-made gown and, royal title or not, blue jeans are the great equalizer. But the regal way to wear denim feels elevated, too. 1. Kate Middleton
Like I mentioned above, Kate knows how to dress to impress—but that’s what makes it extra striking whenever she swaps beloved brands like Jenny Packham or Alexander McQueen to dress more comfortably in blue jeans. The Princess of Wales actually has a bit of a “uniform” whenever she mixes denim into her attire. She typically styles her jeans with a white top and a blazer, relying readily on the rule of thirds to lengthen her figure at the same time. As for the blue jean brands she reaches for the most, & Other Stories—which she wore to a royal engagement at the Natural History Museum—has long been a go-to. (In particular, the Favorite Cut, which is now out of stock, but offers a high-waist fit with a bit of stretch—a similar option is below.) Kate also reaches for MOTHER Denim (she’s worn both the ‘The Weekender’ and ‘The Dazzler’ fits). Add a pair of Veja sneakers and it’s a cinch to mimic her look.

2. Meghan Markle
Yes, the Duchess of Sussex reached for blue jeans during her royal days, but life as a Montecito resident—and as the host of her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan—has brought her denim game to a whole new level. In fact, Meghan has a way of elevating the most down to earth of denim looks. Like Kate, she loves pairing jeans with a good white shirt (preferably a button-down) and a blazer, too, but Meghan has her own unique rotation of denim brands and we want to get our hands on all of them.

3. Princess Diana
The late Princess of Wales was a style icon—perhaps one of the most fashionable women to ever walk this earth. So, whenever she stepped out in jeans, it made a massive impact. But when you study Diana’s denim aesthetic, like Kate and Meghan, it was as simple as it was classic. A white button-down, an oversize sweatshirt—every look felt more effortless than the last. But while the pairings stayed low-key, the waistlines stayed high. (Hey, it was the ‘80s and ‘90s after all.) That silhouette still holds up in present times, which is why we’d do pretty much anything to mirror Diana’s look.
