I’m a Plus-Size Fashion Editor & Here Are 14 Items I’m Shopping For This Fall

Universal Standard recently teamed up with plus-size fashion advocate and creative director Abisola Omole for a tailored seven-piece capsule collection. From a faux-suede skirt to a wool blend cape, each piece is meant to seamlessly blend into any existing wardrobe. This lush polo sweater, for example, caught my eye due to its polished yet relaxed fit, preppy pink hue and endless styling possibilities. I plan on wearing it with a pair of straight leg jeans and flats on casual days, but when I want to spruce it up, I’ll be opting for a midi skirt and knee-high boots.

I basically lived in the cotton version of this dress for the better part of summer, and I’m not ready to give it up. For something more fall appropriate, I’m picking it up in this dark denim fabric that’s reportedly not too heavy, but will still provide enough coverage against those chilly autumn breezes. Built-in bra aside, this frock is incredibly comfortable and takes the guesswork out of picking an outfit because it’s an instant look from the moment you put it on.

After testing a pair of extra wide calf heeled boots from the brand last fall, I’ve been curious to try another style. Enter these leopard print Mary Janes featuring one of this season’s hottest prints and versatile enough to work with a handful of fall outfits.

There have been plenty of fast-fashion-meets-designer collabs popping up lately, but the only one on my wishlist is Old Navy’s dreamy collection with ready-to-wear designer Altuzarra. Chunky knit sweaters are a perennial fall (and Meg Ryan) staple, and the vintage-like style of this topper only adds to its appeal. It’s like you stole a sweater out of your very chic grandma’s closet. Let’s hope it’s just as cozy.

As someone who always gravitates toward ludicrously capacious bags, I have yet to add a slouchy hobo to my collection. I’m on the hunt for the perfect fall coat, and I’ve had my eye on this double-breasted trench from London-based brand Arrange. It’s a bit on the pricier side, but I’m willing to invest simply for the belted cuffs, contrasting collar and the peek of plaid underneath the capelet.

I love wearing baggy jeans, but not the pesky waist gapping that comes with them. This pair has adjusters near the rear specifically to solve that problem. And despite having no stretch, several reviewers assure these mid-rise pantaloons offer plenty of space without having to size up. Color me impressed.

Summer’s over, but wedding season is not. With a few weekend receptions creeping up on my calendar, I need to find a soirée-worthy gown ASAP. Another brand with shoes accurately sized for wide feet? Dolce Vita. Comfortability is key when choosing a good pair of heeled boots, and this brand delivers. I can’t get over the subtle buckle detailing on this otherwise sleek pair of leather stilettos. My only dilemma here is choosing a style—black leather or brown suede?

If you ask me, a plaid maxi skirt is a must for any fall wardrobe. And I’ve finally found one that’ll work in my closet. Made from 100 percent cotton, this one boasts a brown check print, with two decorative ties lining the waistband. Its casual fit gives the look of ease without feeling too undone. I’ll be wearing this beauty until winter.
