I’m going to be honest: Shopping as a plus-size or curvy person can be difficult, to say the least. Going to the mall, hoping retailers carry extended sizing in-store is always a strange (and embarrassing) guessing game, and online shopping can be a risky gamble. Who has time for returns? Accessibility aside, the options available are also lacking. For years, shopping has been a series of complicated quests, combing through racks of unappealing garments that are just as unflattering as they are unsightly. But as someone who thinks about what she’s purchasing next on a daily basis, I have mastered the art of seeking out quality plus-size pieces that are actually fashionable and worth buying.

That said, I’ve rounded up a list of warm-weather-ready pieces from some of my favorite retailers with the chicest plus-size options, including Nordstrom, Eloquii, Reformation and Anthropologie. From protective slip shorts that prevent thigh chafing to sporty ballet flats that are suitable for wide feet, here are 14 items on my wishlist this summer.

Sporty Ballet Flats Are Everywhere. Here Are 6 Pairs You Can Shop

My favorite summer outfits are ones you can toss on without thinking about it too much (and give you a little breathing room). This romper is made from 100 percent organic cotton, so its fabric is airy, breathable and exactly what I'm looking for with the impending summer heat ahead. I adore the cream and brown striped print and there's a cotton lining, meaning it's not see-through. I can see myself wearing this one constantly throughout the season.

When the weather reaches an unbearable point, there’s only one thing I hate more than the sweltering heat—thigh chafing. I usually pair any dress I wear with shorts for a bit of security, but after experiencing the worst chub rub one summer, I’m always desperate for extra protection when the season rolls around. These shorts, in particular, have unique cooling properties to prevent chafing and are available in several color options with sheer coverage, so they won’t clash with your OOTD. Did I mention that they reportedly don’t roll or ride up?

I'm manifesting a tropical beach getaway on my calendar soon simply to wear some of Eloquii's summer-ready pieces. After scrolling through the brand's new arrivals, I stumbled on this halter neck scarf top that screams late-night margaritas at a secluded beach bar. The beads around the functional neck tie add a playful detail, while the partial lining prevents any accidental slipups. The styling above with the pale yellow tie-waist pant is already perfect, but it would work just as well with a flowy maxi skirt. Or even a mini.

If it was socially acceptable to wear linen pants all year-round, I would. This pair from Abercrombie & Fitch has an ultra wide-leg, palazzo silhouette, providing extra breeziness around the thigh area. Whether it's styled with a white tank or a flowy blouse, the bottoms automatically give any outfit an effortless tailored look. These pants will, for sure, become a staple in my wardrobe.

A simple sandal can take you very far during the summer, especially if it’s as versatile as this pair from Steve Madden. Sleek, classic and straight to the point, these easy slip-ons will be perfect for everyday wear and traveling.

What's summer without a fun anklet to pair with all your beachy outfits? The faux pearls and seashell charms may be a little kitschy, but that's what makes it so great. I love how they look against the gold metal chain and shoppers report it holds up even after a saltwater swim.

I've waxed poetic about my love for the original Tobie shirt dress many times. And as much as it has become a staple in my closet, it can be too formal for regular summer hangouts. Sleeveless, the shirt dress looks relaxed and still polished, but much more suited for casual wear and nights out.

I'm always amazed at how Coach tailors its best-sellers for a new season. This summer, wooden beads have taken over the design room, bringing us this colorful iteration of everyone's favorite Tabby shoulder bag. Still designed from the brand's archival 1970s style, the pouch is made from a natural grain leather adorned in an intricately hand-woven summery pattern, then finished with complementary brass hardware. It can be worn on the shoulder or as a crossbody.

Every summer, I promise myself I won't buy another swimsuit. And somehow with the season barely here, I've already broken that promise. This two-piece set is made to accentuate your form without being uncomfortable. The curved top has built-in flexible underwire, and an adjustable band and straps offering extra support. I'm also a fan of the sizing system, which follows band and cup sizes, making it easier to find the right fit. The bottoms are high-waisted (and a little cheeky), but have convenient elastic trims to fit your suit securely in place.

10. Reformation Cleo Skirt

Reformation

Remember that flowy maxi skirt I mentioned? This crisp beauty from Reformation is made from organic cotton and spandex for a comforting stretch. It boasts an A-line fit and the waistband has a drawstring for easy adjustments. The white style is great for versatility with other pieces in my closet, but I find the beacon check print just as chic. It reminds me of easygoing weekends in the city and impromptu park picnics.

TBH, I've been giving the sporty ballet flat trend a slight side-eye since it emerged. Not because I don't find them incredibly fashionable, but because it didn't seem well suited for wide feet. After coming across several wide-footed fashionistas on TikTok who assure the opposite, I've been convinced to splurge on a pair. I like that the textured woven style allows your toes to breathe, rather than traditional flats where sweating is usually a given. Additionally, I've seen nothing but rave reviews praising their comfort, with shoppers noting they can walk thousands of steps without a hint of pain.

Capris, bermudas, cargos—peak shorts season is here. I cherish Old Navy's extensive denim collection (with a size offering up to a size US 30), and the brand's baggy styles have started taking over my wardrobe. They're incredibly forgiving, and I always reach for jeans that don't feel like they're suffocating my thighs. As someone who wants to feel as comfortable as they can this summer, these shorts are high on my shopping list.

My outfit formula this summer is simple: a fitted top (preferably sleeveless), loose bottoms of any kind and a comfortable-but-elevated flat shoe. Abercrombie just dropped several bra-free pieces already in high demand that check my boxes and then some. This slim-fit, cotton-blend tank features a square neckline, has removable bust padding and comes in 18 colors. I won't be surprised if I purchase this casual basic more than once.

Another great summer accessory? A silk scarf. I typically leave silk scarves for my nighttime routine to protect my hair, but I've been keen to see how I can incorporate them into my day-to-day. Potentially tied to my bag, around my bun or on my head as a chic Parisian-inspired hood during a beach day. I'm obsessed with this NYC-inspired matchbook print that's bound to earn anyone compliments.
