When it comes to big home purchases, a sofa is high up there—and not just because of the cost. It’s the focal point of a living or family room, and as such, it needs to strike just the right balance of comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. It’s also enough of a pain to move in and out of your home that you dread having to swap it out, even if a company’s return policy is generous.

That’s why, after seeing that 7th Avenue’s Six-Seat Modular Corner Sectional has earned top ratings from reviewers, we wanted to find out what, exactly, makes this one so worth it. To get you all of the details on customization, delivery and how the sofa really feels once it’s in your space, tester Becca Kroll went through the entire process and shared her honest thoughts below.

Our Review of the 7th Avenue Modular Corner Sectional

Its Customization Options Are Impressive

7th ave

When it comes to customizing the Modular Corner Sectional, you have plenty of options. Three different fabric types are available—performance woven chenille, premium performance velvet and performance textured weave—and each has a variety of colors to choose from (with the most options being available for the velvet fabric). While Kroll opted to choose her color (the performance woven chenille in heather grey) based on online photos, free swatches are available to request if you’re stuck between a few shades or textures.

No matter which color you choose, you can feel confident knowing that if you change your mind (or your room’s color scheme), you can simply swap out the covers instead of buying an entire new one. (That alone gave Kroll the peace of mind to trust the photos online and order without trying swatches.) The fabrics are also OEKO-TEX certified and PFAS-free, and the frames are crafted from solid FSC-certified wood.

The sofa also has options for classic or extra-deep seating, standard or slim widths, and a corner left or corner right orientation. “To fit our space, we got the slim width, [which is] still quite wide,” Kroll says. “You would never know it's slimmer than the other option. We also [chose] the regular depth because we aren't tall.”

If you need help making decisions for your own sofa, you can also book a virtual showroom appointment (or visit in-person if you’re near one of 7th Avenue’s showroom locations).

The Delivery Process Had Some Hiccups, But Customer Service Was Excellent

Most of the sectional’s color and fabric options are available to ship within two to four weeks, and are shipped via FedEx. You can also add on assembly for an additional cost, which Kroll did. She explained that the entire process did have “a lot of back and forth,” when there were a few mix-ups with tracking. However, Kroll said that the 7th Avenue team was “SO nice and helpful” in sorting out their delivery with FedEx, and noted that they “actually returned calls when they said they would.”

Once the delivery was complete and an assembly appointment was scheduled (which 7th Avenue notes should be done after your sofa is delivered and the boxes are in the space where you want it to be assembled), things went much more smoothly for Kroll. She said: “[They] asked me where I wanted the couch, how I wanted it arranged, if I wanted it centered on the TV or rug or window, etc. They had a perfectly silent system unwrapping everything, screwing in the legs and putting on the covers. I hovered around and told them I wanted to make sure I understood how it was put together in case we wanted to move it or change the covers, and he was very nice about answering my questions and giving me a heads up for specific things to keep in mind.”

If you plan to assemble your sofa yourself, 7th Avenue provides detailed videos and shares the approximate weight of each parcel:

  • Seat modules: approximately 45 lbs each
  • Storage seat models: approximately 75 lbs each
  • Arms and backs: approximately 25 lbs each
  • Fabric cover box: approximately 25–45 lbs (varies by configuration size)

You may also have the option to schedule signature white glove delivery if your delivery address is within 40 miles of Los Angeles or Hayward, California. (Find even more specifics on delivery here.)

Daily Use and Upkeep Is Pretty Low-Maintenance

Now that the sofa is in Kroll’s space and being used daily by her family, she’s even happier with the choices she made. “We chose this brand because we have a messy toddler, a baby on the way and a little dog who likes to walk in the backyard and jump straight onto the couch. This made the washable covers feel like the right choice for us,” she said, and noted that when she washed one of the cushion covers per the brand’s instructions (on a delicate cycle and left hanging to dry) it came out “wonderfully.”

As for the feel of the fabric, Kroll says the performance woven chenille “is so soft…but looks like a typical upholstery fabric.” She also shared that “the cushions are soft but dense,” and said she “was surprised how fancy and substantial they feel. [It’s] not a lightweight foam.”

She also appreciates its modular design and said it’s especially great knowing that its shape can be adjusted when her family finds their forever home. “We have it set up in a four-by-two configuration in the family room, but knowing we can make it a more typical three-by-three square, which can fit in more normal-shaped rooms in the future, made it feel like we were buying something for [the] long term and flexibility; not only what fits this room, this house, today,” she explained. She also loves that the modular sofa feels very stable: “you can lay, jump and sit without the pieces separating.”

There’s Just One Thing to Consider Before Buying

One thing to note is that this sofa is heavy—Kroll shared: “When we tried to scoot it over a couple inches just by pushing it wouldn't budge, so we had to unscrew a piece and move it in sections (which is totally fine and easy to do—they connect on the top of the seat cushion underneath the Velcro-ed seat cushion). So one person [could move it on their own], yes, but you'd have to plan a little ahead. It's not like moving a chair across the room, but separating the couch into chunks, moving over and reattaching.”

The Bottom Line: It’s a Versatile, Comfy & High-Quality Pick

What We Like

  • Soft cushions and fabric
  • Modular design
  • Machine-washable covers

What We Don't Like

  • Delivery process could be smoother
  • Corners where back and slim-width cushions come together can be a bit puffy

7th ave

All things considered, this sofa is worth investing in if you want a durable piece of furniture that can move and change with your family’s space and preferences. From the changeable (and don’t forget, machine-washable!) covers to the modular design that can be adjusted to suit different rooms, you can expect to get use out of 7th Avenue’s six-Seat Modular Corner Sectional for years to come. Now all that’s left is to decide how to customize yours.
