There’s a reason people lose all sense of financial responsibility the second they walk into an Anthropologie store. Sure, the maxi dresses and Mother jeans are tempting—but it’s the candles that truly make our wallets weep. Don’t believe me? Take just one whiff of the brand’s signature Capri Blue Volcano candle or Voluspa’s Baltic Amber scent before you’re suddenly debating whether you need a backup…for your backup.

That said, not every candle deserves a spot on your windowsill year-round. That’s why I decided to tap PureWow editors—and pore over hundreds of reviews—to create a list of the brand’s most beloved scents, broken down by season. From fresh, zesty spring picks like Voluspa’s Mediterranean Lemon to the moody, autumnal richness of Apotheke’s New York City, here are Anthropologie’s 10 best candles to burn, gift, and hoard—no matter what month it is.

The Best Scents for Spring and Summer

ICYMI, Anthropologie has become synonymous with a single scent: the Capri Blue Volcano. Yet, while people are so enraptured by this candle that they refer to it as “the Anthro scent,” most are surprised to learn what it actually smells like: tropical fruits, sugared oranges, lemons and limes and exotic mountain greens. “It's the most iconic Anthro scent and for good reason,” backs PureWow editor Abby Hepworth. “It's light, lovely, airy and never overwhelming (and I say this as a person who opts for unscented everything when possible).” Plus, according to VP of editorial, Candace Davision, “It smells sweeter and softer than the typical bright, tart scent people often associate with lemons, limes and oranges, likely due to the additional tropical notes.” The cherry on top? It comes in four sizes—including a colossal 130-ounce version with 250-hour burn time—and endless vessel designs that vary by season.

One Anthro reviewer describes the feeling this candle evokes best: “It’s like watching a sunset at the beach.” With soft, floral-solar notes of white almond, jasmine sambac and cashmere musk, it’s light enough for spring brunches but rich enough to linger in late July twilight. Another reviewer noted a “refreshing hint of hydrangeas,” which adds a layer of elegance (Nancy Meyers fans, take note). The 48-hour burn time offers plenty of mileage from its coconut wax blend, while the subtle throw fills a bedroom or sun-drenched living room without overwhelming.

If you’ve been craving a citrus candle that actually smells like citrus, this one delivers. “It has the fresh scent of a fragrant, ripe lemon,” one reviewer raves, adding that it “completely fills our downstairs rooms”—a rare feat for most lemon-scented candles. With zesty notes of bergamot, jewel-toned citrus and a twist of Sicilian lemon, it’s bright and juicy without feeling too sugary or synthetic. The coconut wax blend comes in multiple sizes (25-hour or 100-hour burn time), and the embossed blue glass jar looks just as refreshing as it smells. Best of all? It’s practically made for gloomy spring days when you need a sensory escape: “The scent is a mood-changer for me. It’s uplifting, bright, but not cloying,” another shopper adds.

Focaccia in a candle? One reviewer writes, “Sign me up!” This warm, savory-scented pick is a standout from the mise en place collection, with layers of sea salt, rosemary and olive oil that smell exactly like a loaf of fresh-from-the-oven bread. It’s a surprisingly cozy option for late spring and summer nights spent hosting—especially since “it smells JUST like fresh-baked bread,” according to another fan. The 30-hour burn time and ceramic vessel (complete with rose gold lid) make it both functional and giftable, and the coconut wax blend ensures a clean burn that won’t compete with whatever’s actually cooking. Ideal for kitchens, Sunday reset, or pretending you live in the French countryside.

This one goes out to the minimalist who wants their space to smell like a spa. Featuring fresh, herbal notes of sea air, golden flax, and tarragon, this candle offers a clean, subtle scent that doesn’t overpower. “Linnea candles tend to have a much lighter scent than other heavier brands, which I prefer,” shares Hepworth. “The holder is simple and understated—it can fit with any decor—but there are also some more decorative variations if you prefer something with more pizazz.” Bonus: It’s hand-poured using ethically sourced soy wax, and the double cotton wick helps distribute that coastal-air aroma evenly—perfect for breezy spring cleaning days or a post-shower refresh.

The Best Scents for Fall and Winter

I’ve tested a lot of candles, and very few make me want to reorder before I’ve even hit the halfway point. But Baltic Amber? It’s the one I always come back to when the foliage changes from green to yellow. The vanilla isn’t cloying or overly gourmand—it’s warm, rich and plays backup to the sandalwood (which is traditionally seen as masculine but somehow feels soft and grounded here). The amber also rounds everything out with a woodsy sweetness that doesn’t tip into syrupy territory. Add to that its ultra-powerful throw—which fills my entire 900-square-foot apartment in under 30 minutes—and the fact that the medium size offers 100 hours of burn time. I’ve let this guy burn for hours when reading something indulgent, and it barely makes a dent.

Think of this as Capri Blue Volcano’s older, moodier sister. “If you love that tropical, fruity vibe, you need to check out Night Gardenia,” says Davison. “It’s a sultrier take, thanks to the notes of tonka and musk, and the floral note from gardenia really rounds things out.” Designed with cooler months in mind, this warm floral blend includes salted guava fruit, soft tonka and warm musk—giving it that enveloping, curl-up-under-a-blanket kind of feel. Available in two sizes (30 or 54-hour burn time), the plant-based wax also comes hand-poured into a sculptural, glass vessel with a wooden. Perfect for fall dinner parties or a cozy night in with zero plans.

If winter wealth were wrapped in a candle, this one would be it. “Lime and patchouli balance out the sweetness of the vanilla, resulting in a sophisticated scent that feels like it belongs on a marble side table near a boucle armchair,” according to Davison. And while the brand lists chamomile, amber woods and patchouli as its hero notes, Hepworth agrees it walks the line between rich and refreshing. “It’s a light, cozy smell that’s the perfect balance between heavier winter scents and bright summery ones.” Plus, with its 60-hour burn time, double cotton wicks, and a hand-poured soy wax formula, it’s basically tailor-made for crisp fall mornings or slow winter evenings spent under a throw blanket.

Here, another crowd-pleasing candle from Voluspa—but this one is exclusive to Anthropologie. “It’s like fall weather captured in a scent—woody, spicy, comforting,” writes one of its hundreds of reviewers. Made with ground and distilled vanilla beans, it’s not your average sugary vanilla; instead, it’s deeper, richer, and grounded in warmth. In fact, according to another shopper, “it evokes [the] sophistication of a library filled with leather and spirits.” Not only is it the perfect holiday mood-setter—thanks to a powerful throw that “fills the whole room,” per another person—but the 60-hour (or 100-hour) burn time also offers weeks of cozy payoff.

If your ideal snow day includes moody lighting, leather-bound books and a playlist full of jazz, this is the candle for you. One reviewer describes it as “full of smokey goodness—like an expensive incense in an old church with magical light and high ceilings.” Built around charcoal, cedarwood, sandalwood, burnt maple and a hint of raspberry, the scent is broody and complex, with a subtle sweetness that balances out its richness. “Masculine and seductive,” another person notes, adding that they’d recommend it to “anyone who wants to add a touch of sophistication to their space.” Indeed, the sleek black glass vessel looks far more expensive than the price tag suggests—and it offers up to 35 hours of burn time to boot.
