Loveseats are like the little black dress of living rooms: compact enough for apartments, stylish enough to stand alone and versatile enough to work in everything from a first studio to a fully designed family den. They’re what you turn to when a full sofa feels overwhelming but an accent chair just won’t cut it. And as anyone who’s hunted for “the right one” knows, loveseats are trickier than they look—too shallow and you’re perching, too firm and you’re stiff, too soft and you’re swallowed whole.

That’s why I enlisted PureWow editors to test a lineup of the most popular models—from a TikTok-viral leather loveseat to fully washable options that laugh in the face of wine spills. I’m talking Crate & Barrel, Albany Park, Lovesac and more—each put through weeks of lounging, napping, work from home, and of course, the occasional spill. Here, find our top eight picks.

 How We Tested Each Loveseat

Every loveseat on this list was tested in editors’ homes for a minimum of two months—long enough to see how they held up to pets, roommates, partners and Netflix marathons. We focused on four main categories:

  • Dimensions: We focused on loveseats in the 68- to 75-inch range—compact enough to work in small apartments, but wide enough to comfortably seat two adults (or three in a pinch). Seat depths varied from 22 to 27 inches; anything under 21 felt too shallow for lounging.
  • Comfort: We paid attention to cushion fill (foam, down, hybrids), the “crown” feel on first sit (as in, that slight dome of support you feel before sinking into the cushion), and whether the support held up after hours of use—or flattened out into pancakes.
  • Fabric & Washability: Because life happens, we tested performance fabrics, spot-cleaning power and (where possible) machine-washable covers. Bouclé, velvet, chenille and leather all made the cut, but only the ones that survived spills and lint rollers earned a spot.
  • Assembly & Durability: From unboxing in walk-ups to reconfiguring modular designs, we noted how easy (or hellish) they were to assemble, and whether joints and cushions kept their shape over time.

1. Article Sven Tufted Leather Loveseat

What We Like

  • High-density foam bench cushions
  • Full-aniline Italian leather develops a natural patina
  • Compact size works in small spaces but still seats three
  • Includes bolster pillows and plump back cushions

What We Don't Like

  • Leather will scratch and stain (though blends in over time)
  • Requires conditioning to keep it soft

Article

When you go with leather, you want something that’ll only look better with time—and the Sven loveseat proves why it’s earned cult status on TikTok. Director of Affiliate Strategy Pam Masin has had hers for five years—hauling it with her through three moves—and says, “It’s held up incredibly well… I use it as the main seating in my living room and love the streamlined look while still being plenty comfy to lounge on while watching TV.”

That’s thanks to its high-density foam bench cushion, which has just enough give to sink into without losing support, and the plump, loose back cushions that make it feel far cozier than most leather pieces. Not to mention the sizing: “The big selling point for me was the compact length paired with deep seats,” Pam says. “The sofa is 88 inches long, so it fit in my small apartment living room at the time, but it can still comfortably seat three people in my house.”

As for the leather, it’s 100 percent top-grain, full-aniline Italian—the kind that softens and develops a natural patina with age. Pam calls it “extremely durable” and notes that while it “definitely scratches and stains, I find that they blend in with the Charme Tan color. Plus, imperfections give a leather some character.” Available in six shades (from Charme Chocolat to Oxford Blue), each piece has its own unique variations in tone and texture, so no two are alike. It’s the kind of material that only gets better with years of movie nights, naps and everyday use.

2. Crate & Barrel Tidal Apartment Sofa

What We Like

  • Over 232 customizable fabric options, including performance weaves
  • Cushions are supportive yet cozy
  • Timeless modern plinth base
  • White glove delivery with assembly included

What We Don't Like

  • Cushions start out on the firmer side
  • Made-to-order with limited return options

Crate & Barrel

If you’re working with limited square footage but still want a loveseat that looks like it belongs in a magazine shoot, the Tidal is it. I tested the sectional version in a PureWow100 review, and even my mother—an interior designer and my toughest critic—gave it her stamp of approval. The loveseat version delivers the same high-end luxury in a smaller footprint—an 83-inch width (also available in 93 and 101 inches) that’s generous without overwhelming a room, and a 43.5-inch seat depth that offers plenty of space to curl up.

The cushions are made with a foam and polyester fiber blend wrapped in down-proof ticking, so they’re firm at first but soften into that perfect balance of structure and sink-in comfort. Unlike other sofas I’ve tested, which slump after a few months, this one holds its shape beautifully. Think: countless naps, movie marathons and my Sheepadoodle George (who thinks it’s his personal throne).

To that end, what really sold me was the range and quality of the materials. There are more than 232 customizable fabrics to choose from, and the Oasis performance weave in Shell has been a game-changer. It’s a gorgeous neutral, soft to the touch and durable enough to repel paw prints, red wine spills and unavoidable crumbs that accumulate over time. Add in the ash veneer plinth base and clean, low-slung lines, and you have a piece that’s timeless enough to take with you from apartment to apartment (or to a home office if you move to the suburbs one day).

Fast Facts

  • Dimensions: 83” W x 43.5” D x 25” H (also available in 93” and 101” widths)
  • Delivery and assembly: White glove delivery with in-home placement and packaging removal
  • Fabric options: Performance fabrics, bouclé, chenille, linen, velvet, and more (232+ total)
  • Color options: Off-white, grey/black, brown, blue, green, red/orange, purple

Best Budget Loveseat

3. Wade Logan Brinae Loveseat

What We Like

  • Budget-friendly at $650 without looking cheap
  • Sculptural bouclé design with curved arms and orb pillows
  • Performance fabric is water- and stain-resistant
  • Comes fully assembled

What We Don't Like

  • Cushions lean firmer
  • Occasional loose threads noted over time

Wade Logan

The Brinae loveseat is basically Pinterest’s favorite shape—curved arms, orb pillows and a sculptural nubby frame—without the $3,000 price tag. As editorial assistant Courtney Mason put it, “I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the loveseat cushions were. At first glance, the cushions appear to be too firm for comfort, but they actually have a bouncier feel due to the springs and padding. (I would give it a three out of five on the firm scale—five being firmest.)” That balance of support and give makes it more than just a statement piece. Courtney notes, “My roommate and I usually prefer classic sofas that you can sink into instead of modern designs, but we both found ourselves lounging and relaxing on this one more than we thought we would—whether that be for a chill movie night or midday nap (which didn’t leave us with back pains).”

Wrapped in textured bouclé, the upholstery also feels soft but not slippery, with performance finishes that make it stain- and water-resistant. And despite the light fabric, it’s held up: “There hasn’t been any noticeable wear and tear. Sometimes, I will notice a loose thread or two, but the fabric is still in pristine condition and the cushions still hold that soft firmness. If it needs a cleaning from dust or stray crumbs, a quick once-over with a vacuum does the trick.”

At 68 inches wide, it’s also compact enough for apartments but still substantial enough to anchor a room. Add in the four included accent pillows, and you’ve got a loveseat that’s as livable as it is design-forward—for $650, it’s one of the rare budget buys that feels anything but cheap.

  • Color options: Beige, dark gray, green, light gray, taupe

Most Splurge-Worthy Loveseat

4. Lovesac 2-Seat Sactional + StealthTech

What We Like

  • Choose from standard/deep seats and foam/down-blended cushions
  • 200+ fabrics (most machine-washable and spill-resistant)
  • Fully modular: start with a loveseat, expand to a 12-seater
  • Built-in Harman Kardon surround sound + wireless charging
  • Recliner, storage, AnyTable, Power Hub add-ons

What We Don't Like

  • Pieces are heavy and reconfiguring is a workout
  • Add-ons drive up an already steep price

Lovesac

In a PureWow100 review, former commerce editor Olivia Dubyak says this is “the Beyoncé of couches.” Why? Let’s start with comfort: you’re not stuck with a one-size-fits-all cushion. Lovesac lets you pick between standard seats—more supportive and structured—or deep seats, which sit lower for a sink-in, loungey feel. Then you can choose your fill: the high-density foam holds its shape with easy re-fluffing, while the down-blend feels plusher and more cloud-like. Olivia explains, “The cushions are nice and supportive, and if you find you have a favorite spot on the couch and notice some denting, it’s super easy to fluff out the filling to reshape them.” Not to mention the washability, which makes this sofa nearly bulletproof. Most of its 200+ fabrics—from polyester chenille to corded velvet—are machine-washable, fade- and shrink-resistant, and some even feature water-repellent finishes.

But the customization extends far beyond the cushions: the pre-arranged two-seat + four-side loveseat (about 70 inches wide) can be scaled into a 12-seater, broken into separate couches, or reshaped into a U. “You can do almost any configuration,” Olivia says, which proved handy when she and her husband reconfigured theirs into a giant mattress for what she describes as “high school-esque sleepovers.”

And of course, the splurge factor: StealthTech. Built-in Harman Kardon surround sound, a subwoofer and wireless charging panels turn this loveseat into a full entertainment hub. “I’m still baffled by how high-quality the sound is and how much the subwoofer amplifies the bass,” she adds. The system pairs via Bluetooth to your TV and projects audio from the arms of the couch for a theater-like experience. And add-ons like powered recliners, hidden storage seats, AnyTables and a StealthTech Power Hub push it even further into investment-worthy territory.

Fast Facts

  • Dimensions: 70” W x 35” D x 29” H (2-seat loveseat)
  • Delivery/assembly: Threshold delivery included
  • Fabric options: Bouclé, chenille, velvet, poly-linen, leather, performance weaves and more (200+)
  • Colors: Grey, cream, tan, taupe, black, blue, green, pink, red, purple, and more

Best Feather Loveseat

5. Mario Capasa Feathers Sofa

What We Like

  • Deep seats with plush duck feather + foam blend
  • Ultra-soft, machine-washable slipcovers
  • Roomy enough to comfortably seat three
  • Costs half as much as RH’s Cloud Couch

What We Don't Like

  • Cushions require weekly fluffing
  • Occasional feather pokes

Mario Capasa

VP of Editorial Candace Davison calls this “just as cozy as the famous Restoration Hardware Cloud Couch—only it’s half the price.” And when you break down her full review, it’s easy to see why. The Feathers loveseat blends 43 percent duck feathers with layers of polyurethane foam and polyester batting, creating cushions that are plush enough to sink into but firm enough to support you. “I could sleep—OK, have slept—on it, without waking to stiff hips or a creaky neck,” she writes, adding that the deep seats are “ideal for tall people” (she’s 5’11”, and her husband is 6’3”). At 84 inches wide in the three-seat configuration, it’s also roomy enough to fit three adults comfortably without that awkward shoulder-bumping closeness.

What truly sets it apart, though, is the fabric. The microfiber–cotton slipcovers feel velvety soft to the touch yet are surprisingly durable. “They’ve survived everything from red wine to my kids’ inevitable spills,” she explains, praising the fact that “you can just zip them off and toss them in the wash.” In other words, the covers are fully removable from top to bottom, stain-resistant and designed to hold up through countless laundry cycles.

Her only caveat? “Occasionally, a feather pokes out, and the sofa’s cushions require more routine fluffing so they don’t slouch.” Still, considering the quality of materials, this loveseat proves you can get cloud-like comfort for a fraction of the Cloud Couch’s price.

Fast Facts

  • Dimensions: 84” W x 39” D x 32” H (also available in 4-, 5- and 6-seat sizes)

  • Color options: Beige, charcoal, light grey, dark grey

Best Washable Loveseat

6. Albany Park Lido Sofa

What We Like

  • Fully washable: every cushion cover zips off and can be machine-washed
  • Stain- and liquid-resistant fabrics hold up (even velvet)
  • Compact loveseat feels roomy thanks to deep seating
  • Ships quickly, assembles in under 30 minutes

What We Don't Like

  • Return policy includes restocking fees
  • Premium fabrics (velvet, bouclé) cost extra

Albany park

Speaking of washability—we’ve all drooled over the idea of a white sofa, only to picture it turning into a Rorschach test of coffee spills, paw prints and takeout grease. But this one flips the script. I tested the 75-inch loveseat in my friend’s podcast studio, where I promptly spilled a White Claw mid-recording. To my relief, it wiped clean with just a damp cloth.

The secret is in the construction: Every cushion cover zips off, is fully machine-washable, and the performance fabrics are designed to resist both stains and liquid absorption. Translation? Toss them in the wash with a standard detergent pod and they come out fresh. My friends went with the rust performance velvet—ultra-plush and luxe without being fussy—but the Lido also comes in bouclé, vegan leather, performance basketweave, chenille, brushed canvas and linen. That range means you can play it safe with a hardworking twill or go dramatic with a jewel-toned velvet.

Design-wise, it also strikes that balance between comfort and polish. The high-resilience foam cushions keep their shape but still feel cushy enough to sink into, while the slim arms and clean lines make it versatile for tight apartments or more styled-out living rooms. Finish it with brass, oak, or black metal legs and you’ve got a loveseat that looks tailored but lives easy. And the kicker? It ships in three compact boxes and assembles in under 30 minutes. No stairwell meltdowns required.

Fast Facts

  • Dimensions: 75”W x 32”H x 37.5”D
  • Delivery and assembly: Ships in three recyclable boxes; 30-minute assembly
  • Fabric options: Bouclé, velvet, vegan leather, performance basketweave, chenille, brushed canvas, linen, twill
  • Color options: White, cream, beige, grey, brown, black, blue, green, red, yellow, orange

Best Deep-Seated Loveseat

7. Joybird Holt Sofa

What We Like

  • Deep 28-inch seat
  • Back cushions hold shape without being stiff
  • 76 customizable fabrics with stain-resistant options
  • Sturdy wood frame with spring support

What We Don't Like

  • Chenille fabric is prone to light pilling over time
  • Covers are not removable/washable

joybird

If you’re someone who prefers to sink in and stay awhile, this loveseat delivers the kind of deep-seated comfort that practically demands a marathon binge-watch. Dubyak tested the Holt sectional (this loveseat is its two-seater version) and noted, “I like how deep the seats are, because you can really curl up with a blanket or even sit cross-legged without feeling cramped.”

The cushions are also 28 inches deep, meaning you can sprawl without feeling like you’ll tip forward. “I’m about 5 feet 8 inches tall, and when my butt is scooted to the back of the couch cushion, my feet are dangling. That depth makes it super cozy to sleep or relax on,” she explains. The cushions themselves hit that sweet spot of squishy yet firm, while the back pillows hold their shape without feeling stiff.

Better yet, Joybird offers 76 fabric and color options, and they’re sorted into three tiers: Tier 1 performance fabrics (like woven polyesters and chenilles) built for durability and stain resistance, Tier 2 specialty picks (such as velvets and blends) that balance softness with resilience and Tier 3 luxe choices like bouclé and top-grain leather, which are more about aesthetics than heavy traffic. Olivia’s sofa was upholstered in Merit Dove chenille (Tier 1), which she raved about: “I am very pleased with how easily I’ve been able to lift any stains off the material, from pizza sauce to pen marks.” The trade-off? Chenille can pill with daily use, though she adds that “a fabric shaver has been an easy fix.”

Fast Facts

  • Dimensions: 87"W x 43"D x 34"H
  • Delivery and assembly: Curbside or in-home delivery; drill-on legs required for setup.
  • Fabric options: Available in four performance tiers, ranging from everyday cottons to luxe, stain-resistant finishes
  • Color options: 70+ swatches, including velvets, pet-friendly weaves, and bold shades like Royale Cobalt and Plush Terra Rose

Best Modular Loveseat

8. Burrow Union 2-Seat Sofa

What We Like

  • Modular design can expand, contract or reconfigure easily
  • Cushions offer firm yet bouncy, deep-seated comfort
  • Stain-resistant chenille
  • Ships in compact boxes, making it walk-up and doorway-friendly

What We Don't Like

  • Limited to four fabric colors
  • Assembly, while simple, still takes a couple of hours solo

burrow

When I first bought Burrow’s Union sectional, I went all out—an L-shape big enough to host movie nights, Sunday scaries and two people who work from home. But when I moved apartments, the layout didn’t work. Here’s where the modular design earns its keep: I was able to break it down, reconfigure it into a three-seater, and keep every inch of the comfort I loved. Each piece arrives in manageable boxes (walk-up approved), connects with a pin-and-lever system and clicks together without power tools. That means you can build it, break it down or expand it—whether you’re squeezing into a studio now or planning for an eight-seat U-shaped sprawl later.

As for comfort? The cushions are Burrow’s proprietary three-layer foam and fiber blend, and they hit the Goldilocks zone: firm crown, bouncy sit and deep enough to sink into an entire evening of Severance without aches. Everyone who sits on it comments on the depth—it’s that plush, movie-marathon comfort you want in a sofa.

Durability-wise, it’s equally impressive. I have the cream performance chenille, which is soft to the touch but tough enough to survive real life. Case in point: I once spilled red wine straight across the seat cushion. I grabbed The Laundress stain solution, dabbed with warm water and it lifted clean out—no lingering mark (no scold from my roommate). The fabric also comes in four colors total, and all share that same stain-resistant weave. Add in the precision-milled wood frame (no wobble, no sag) and customizable walnut or oak legs, and you’ve got a sofa that looks modern and unfussy, with chunky cushions and clean lines that feel elevated.

Fast Facts

  • Dimensions: 70" L x 39" D x 31.5" H (2-seat sofa)
  • Delivery and assembly: Ships in multiple compact boxes; ~2 hours solo assembly
  • Fabric options: Stain-resistant polyester chenille
  • Color options: Ivory, navy blue, heather charcoal, crushed gravel

Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes do loveseats come in?

Most loveseats fall between 52 to 72 inches wide (arm-to-arm), depending on style. Grand, deep-seat versions creep up past that; typically closer to 85 inches. And while seat depth usually sits between 20 to 27 inches—which affects whether you can curl up or if you’ll need more pillows—height tends to hover around 35 to 40 inches overall. Either way, be sure to measure before buying (including your entryways for delivery).

What is the difference between a loveseat and a sofa?

Simple version: a loveseat fits two people more comfortably vs. three or more on a sofa. Size is the biggest differentiator. Sofas tend to be longer (96"+), whereas loveseats are shorter. But it's not just length—loveseats often sacrifice width and depth to fit tighter footprints. Think of a loveseat as a scaled-down sofa that keeps the comfort but shrinks the footprint.

How much does a good loveseat cost?

For budget-friendly, well-made loveseats, you’re looking at $500–$1,200. Mid-range loveseats—where you get better cushions, more fabric/fill options, maybe better durability—tend to fall between $1,200–$2,500. If you go custom, designer-branded, or premium leather/eco materials, prices creep up from there. What makes the difference? Frame quality, cushion fill type, fabric or leather quality and added features (modular build, washable covers, etc.).

What is the best material for a loveseat?

There’s no one-size-fits-all “best,” but some materials consistently win in comfort + durability. What we saw in testing: loveseats with removable, washable covers and stain-resistant performance fabric tend to hold up best without massive tradeoffs. Some factors to keep in mind:

  • Performance fabrics (polyester, chenille, performance velvet) are great if you want washable, stain-resistant, everyday use.
  • Down or down-blend filling feels luxurious, plush, but requires more fluffing and care.
  • Leather ages beautifully if you like character over perfection—but real leather needs maintenance.
  • Bouclé + tightly woven fabrics give texture and hide minor wear well.

How long does a loveseat last?

If you invest in quality materials and construction, loveseats should last from 7 to 15 years with regular use. Sofas with solid constructors and frames (hardwood, reinforced joints), quality foam or foam/down cushions and durable fabric or well-maintained leather can push toward the upper end. Cheap frames and low-density foam (or fragile fabric) often start sagging, losing support or showing wear in 3 to 5 years.
