Phew, that was close

Beyoncé is no stranger to handling unexpected moments like a total pro, which completely makes sense after decades of performing on the world’s biggest stages. So when a mid-show malfunction happened during her Cowboy Carter tour stop in her hometown of Houston, she stayed cool.

It all went down on Saturday night during “16 Carriages,” an emotional ballad she performs while seated in a red flying car prop that hovers above the crowd. However, during this show, the car suddenly tilted at a dramatic angle and Beyoncé—mid-air—quickly called out, “Stop, stop, stop.” Fans started yelling for her to be brought down safely as the car slowly descended back to the stage.

Despite the clear technical issue, Bey remained calm and composed. She dismounted like a queen, returned to the stage and later addressed the crowd. “I wanna thank y’all for loving me. If ever I fall, I know y’all will catch me,” she said.

But leave it to Beyoncé to not just recover gracefully—but to poke fun at the moment, too. After the show, she posted her usual tour photos on social media, but this time with a cheeky twist. One post featured several shots of her still sitting in the sideways car, set to the Houston classic “Sittin’ Sidewayz” by Big Pokey and Paul Wall. She even used the track name as her caption.

Fans lost it in the comments. “Girl I am not about to play with youuuuu,” one wrote. Another chimed in, “I’m glad it’s funny now ma’am,” while someone else declared, “A legend who can take a joke—iconic.”

This wasn’t the first glitch of the tour (remember the picture frame moment in May?) but with just a few U.S. stops left before wrapping on July 26 in Nevada, I'm hoping it’s the last.

Here’s to a smooth ride from here on out—for Beyoncé and her flying car.
