Since its debut in July, The Hunting Wives has been making waves for its gripping storyline, steamy scenes and on-trend fashion.

A buzzy new drama based on a novel of the same title by May Cobb, the series stars Paul Teal, Chrissy Metz, Malin AkermanKatie Lowes and other noteworthy names, and follows a former magazine editor (Brittany Snow) who falls into a wealthy socialite's circle full of housewives with lots of dark secrets in their closets.
Speaking of Lowes, the 42-year-old actress, who plays Jill, a preacher's wife and doting mom living a double life, recently gave an exclusive interview to Us Weekly and revealed she originally auditioned for an entirely different role.

“I originally auditioned for Callie,” she told the magazine, referring to another main character in the hit show, one of "wives" who is married to the town's sheriff, Johnny. “I was very proud of that audition tape, but now that you see Jaime Ray Newman in that role, it’s like, ‘Why did I even bother?’”

While playing the role of Callie may not have been in the cards for Lowes, she’s still happy that her interest in the role is what led to her landing the part of Jill, adding, “I got the note, ‘Hey, can you make another audition tape and go in for Jill?’ And I said, ‘I knew when I read it that I would love to play a Callie. But I’m a Jill. I knew when I read it that I was a Jill.'”

Lowes also gave some insight into how competitive the audition process was. “I’m sure a lot of actresses went out for these roles and really, really wanted to get it — not only because it was great but because we hadn’t worked [amid the SAG-AFTRA strike] and because people needed to get back to work vibe. Thank God Rebecca [Cutter] picked me.”

Before The Hunting Wives, Lowes previously played Quinn Perkins, aka the “Molotov Mistress,” in the hit series Scandal.  She and her husband, Alex Shapiro, are also among the founders and directors of the Los Angeles-based IAMA Theater Company, with both making their respective Broadway debuts in 2018’s Waitress

Needless to say, everything worked out exactly like it was supposed to.
