If you're anything like me, you love keeping up with the Prince and Princess of Wales. From birthday portraits of Prince George to Princess Catherine's Wimbledon fashion, I love every little update. And the best ones are those personally signed with a W & C. Well, today is another lucky day. Prince William and Princess Catherine just posted a heartfelt message to their Instagram stories, commemorating V-J Day.

Marking an important day

August 15th is known across the West at V-J Day, or Victory over Japan Day. It commemorates the Japanese surrender and end of World War II. 2025 marks the 80th anniversary.
"Today we especially think of those British and Commonwealth troops who fought in the Asia-Pacific," the royal duo writes. "We owe an enduring debt to the generation who gave so much, and to whom we will always be grateful." They signed off with their signature "W & C" initials.
The prince and princess weren't the only royal family members marking the important occasion. Prince William's father, King Charles III, shared multiple photos and videos on the official royal family Instagram account. In one, a series of photos shows the ceremonies that took place in The National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.
"In commemoration of V-J Day, The King and Queen have joined veterans and military personnel at the Service of Remembrance, hosted by @RoyalBritishLegion, at the National Memorial Arboretum," the caption reads.
The family also released the king's official address, in which he marked the words of his grandfather, King George VI.
"For the millions of families gathered around their wireless sets, and for their loved ones still serving far from home, it was the message a battle-weary world had long prayed for —'The war is over,' declared my grandfather, King George VI, in his address to the nation and Commonwealth on V-J Day 80 years ago today—four short words after six long years of bloodshed, fear and suffering," King Charles says.
The royal family also shared a throwback photo featuring King George VI, Queen Elizabeth, Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret waving on the balcony of Buckingham Palace on V-J Day, 1945.
The caption included this anecdote: "King George VI recorded in his diary that they 'went out to the Balcony 6 times during the afternoon & evening,' large crowds having amassed outside Buckingham Palace by 10 a.m."
In the words of the Prince and Princess themselves, lest we forget.
