It’s been years since Prince Harry stepped down as a senior member of the royal family, yet the rift between him and his relatives—namely King Charles and Prince William—continues to make headlines. And now, thanks to Princess Diana’s biographer Andrew Morton, we have a glimpse into what she may have thought about it all.

“Diana always used to say she had two boys for a reason — the younger would be there to support the older in the lonely task as future King," Morton shared in this week’s People cover story. “There is no doubt Diana would have tried to act as a peacemaker between them. If she had been around, they would have worked things out in a different way.”

Earlier this year, Harry echoed that same sentiment in an emotional interview with the BBC, where he expressed his desire to repair the fractured family dynamic.

“I would love reconciliation with my family,” the Duke of Sussex said. “There’s no point continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious.”

He added, “I don’t know how much longer my father has,” referencing King Charles’s cancer prognosis. “He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff. But it would be nice to reconcile.”

Since then, speculation about a potential reunion has only grown. One possible setting? A royal wedding. Peter Phillips—Princess Anne’s eldest son and Queen Elizabeth’s oldest grandchild—recently announced his engagement to Harriet Sperling. According to Hello!, both Prince William and Prince Harry are expected to be invited.

And if not at the wedding, another reunion could come in 2027, when the Invictus Games head to Birmingham, England. Organizers have said they’d be thrilled to welcome Harry—and the rest of the royal family.

Time will tell.
