Airbnb Makes Huge New Announcement—and Now It'll Be Easier Than Ever to Live Like a Local on Vacation

You can always count on Airbnb to deliver cozy spaces, but starting today, you can add the benefit of services like catering, spa treatments, personal training and more. Chesky explains, “People choose hotels for their services. People choose Airbnbs for the space. Now, we’re giving you the best of both worlds—amazing homes with services that make them even more special.”

Airbnb Services has officially launched ten categories—many of which will help you live like a local on vacation—including chefs, photography, massage, catering, spa treatments, hair, makeup, nails, personal training and prepared meals. Per the press release, Airbnb Services are "hosts have an average of 10 years of experience, have completed Airbnb’s identity verification process, and are required to submit relevant licenses and certifications. Many hosts are renowned in their fields—including chefs from Michelin-starred restaurants, award-winning photographers, and elite trainers."

Perhaps the most exciting update is the relaunch of Airbnb Experiences, which offers a more authentic way to experience your chosen destination. 

Hosted by locals who know the ins and outs of their city, these experiences include landmark visits, food tours, cooking classes, art workshops, outdoor sports, workout sessions and more. The hosts are also vetted for quality, with a focus on expertise, reputation and authenticity.

Chesky says, “Today’s travel activities offer no real connection to the city you’re visiting. The most authentic way to explore a city is with the locals who know it best. With Airbnb Experiences, don’t just see a place—experience it.”

The old Airbnb app was designed simply to book a home. Now, the upgraded version allows you to book homes, services, and experiences in one place. 

Additionally, the app can recommend nearby services you’ll love and offer a detailed itinerary, from check-in details to a daily view of everything you booked. You'll also notice that certain parts of the app have been revamped, including a redesigned profile and an all-new reservations manager tab.
