The best thing about an all-inclusive vacation is that you just have to get yourself there. Since everything is part of the price, you can relax and fully experience a destination without stress, especially in a place as beautiful as Mexico. The country is well known for its many all-inclusive resorts, which typically are located in beachfront areas (you’ll be hard-pressed to find one in Mexico City). Whether you want to indulge in a five-star accommodation or just keep things simple at a low-key all-inclusive, Mexico offers many possibilities ideal for vacationing with babies, kids or teens. In fact, all-inclusive resorts are known for having many family-friendly features, including drop-off kids clubs, activities and entertainment for all ages, and multiple on-site restaurants where guests can enjoy unlimited food and beverage that even your picky toddler will enjoy. Our roundup of the best all-inclusive family resorts in Mexico boasts numerous hotels (Palmar Beach Resort Riviera Maya, Las Brisas Huatulco and Grand Velas Resort, to name a few) that cater to families and cover all the bases.

What Part of Mexico Is Best for Families?

If golden sand beaches are what you want, your best bets are to stay on the Yucatan peninsula, which is the part with beaches on the Caribbean, or on Mexico’s pacific coastline, like Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas. For a different kind of experience, families should also know that Mexico City is a vibrant and kid-friendly destination (although it’s worth noting that the U.S. Department of State advises travelers to exercise increased caution in the area due to crime).

1. Palmar Beach Resort and Spa

What We Like

  • stunning views
  • new and upgraded rooms are luxe and highly appointed
  • quiet, relaxed vibe
  • food exceeds expectations
  • great value for the price

What We Don't Like

  • low occupancy means not all restaurants are open daily
  • no poolside food service

Palmar Beach

PureWow Editor-in-Chief, Jillian Quint, stayed at this resort—formerly known as AZUL Riviera Maya—during a recent visit to Cancun and shared a glowing review that speaks to all the family-friendly features of the new and improved hotel: "The Palmar was recently reopened under new management and, as it's still at low-occupancy, feels like a hidden gem right in the middle of Cancun. I recently went there with my kids, who loved their days at the many pools and kid-friendly swim-up bars. The kids' play area was a hit (even with my children who are eight and 10) and the food exceeded expectations for an all-inclusive. (The pizza at Al Forno is a can't miss.) Also, this feels weird to say in a review, but I was so grateful for the service, particularly when my husband came down with an ear infection and the staff doctor was able to get him seen, medicated and back to the pool in a jiffy!" The TLDR? You can expect luxury amenities, attentive service and all the attractions you need for a relaxing stay with kids.

Azul Beach Resort Riviera Maya

There’s an abundance of luxury resorts in Cancun, but this is the only all-inclusive that I can personally vouch for, having stayed here with my 10-year-old daughter just last year. I highly recommend upgrading your stay to the “enclave” level, which allows for special VIP privileges, including exclusive access to rooftop pools with stunning views and a bar that serves some of the best ceviche I have ever tasted.

If you can’t swing it, though, fear not—all 11 of the restaurants are amazing, the beach is pristine and the pools are designed to make a family vacation feel like a total breeze. (There’s even a mini water park with multiple slides and a fun, bucket-dumping feature that kept my daughter entertained for hours…and you can watch your kid run around from the comfort of the neighboring adult pool with a swim-up bar.)

Aside from the aforementioned splash pad, my daughter says the highlight of the stay was the kids’ club. The warm and caring staff were amazing—the engagement was genuine, the activities were fun and exciting and she made close friends after only visiting the club a couple of times. Bottom line: Hilton Cancun Mar Caribe gets a 10/10 from me and my tween when it comes to all-inclusive resorts that cater to kids and adults alike.

Adults can indulge at the Willow Spa, play a round of golf or go snorkeling (the Riviera Maya has the world’s second largest coral reef). There are daily fitness classes, water sports and, of course, the very essential KidZ Club. With six restaurants included in the rate, you’ll never go hungry, but you can also venture out into Puerto Vallarta, which is well-known for its nightlife and food scene. While in the area be sure to head out to Aquaventuras Park, where kids can swim with dolphins and feed sea lions.

Sandos Caracol Eco Resort

The biggest draw for kids at Sandos Caracol Eco Resort will be the full-sized waterpark. For adults, however, it might be the beach scene, the spa or the possibility of swimming in a jungle cenote. Book into the resort’s specific family section, which features the Kids Club, several pools and family rooms with bunk beds and private plunge pools. Sandos Caracol, which also has an endless array of eateries and bars, is very close to Playa del Carmen, but travelers who rent a car can (and should) also head to nearby Tulum and Akumel for more outdoorsy adventures.

One of the best is the Grand Velas Resort, which offers spacious rooms with chic contemporary decor (as well as a few family suites). Children can hang out at the Grand Velas Kids' Club while older kids will love the Teens’ Club, and there’s nearby snorkeling, whale watching and camel safaris (seriously).

Don’t worry about over-packing, either: Generations can provide cribs, bottle warmers and basically anything you need to keep your baby or toddler alive on vacation.
