As soon as September hits, I'm in full spooky season mode. From drinking pumpkin spice lattes to making seasonal meals, catching up on the latest dark academia reads and, of course, flicking on my favorite Halloween movies, I'm ready to embrace the fall season (even if the weather isn't quite there yet). When it comes to the movies I watch over and over, year after year, Halloweentown is always at the top of the list. I mean, how can you resist the nostalgia?

But beyond just hitting "play" for the hundredth time, why not go experience the movie (well, kinda) IRL? Did you know there's a small town about an hour north of Portland, Oregon that transforms into a real-life Halloweentown every fall? Yeah, now that I know about this, I simply *have* to make time to visit, and if you're on board, too, here's what you need to know.

What Is Spirit of Halloweentown?

The Spirit of Halloweentown festival in St. Helens, Oregon is an event that happens yearly on select days (typically Friday, Saturday and Sunday) starting at the end of September and going through October. You can expect attractions and events like haunted houses, live music, ghost tours, movie screenings, magic shows and more (you can check out the full list here). And if you checked out the video above, you'll know that this year there are even photo ops and meet-and-greets with Halloweentown cast members (and Hocus Pocus cast members, too!). Some of these events require additional tickets, so if there's something you're set on attending, make sure to pre-purchase your tickets and plan out which day (or days) will be best for you to make the most out of the festival.

Where to Stay Near St. Helens

If you're traveling for the festival, you might also want to pick out a place to stay nearby, and consider renting a car if you're flying as the festival's website notes that rideshares can be tough to arrange in the area. Below, I've added a few Airbnb options in St. Helens, but you could also easily choose a hotel in nearby larger cities like Vancouver, Washington or Portland, Oregon that have plenty of options available. But whether you're staying the weekend or just driving in for the day, you're sure to feel like you've stepped straight back into the '90s when you head to St. Helens for the Halloweentown-themed festivities.
