If you aren’t keeping up with chronicles of my sad feet, you’re probably (A.) not my mother or (B.) my podiatrist. So let me get you abreast. The last time I visited my podiatrist for foot pain, she prescribed me the simplest solution: Wear shoes inside the house, specifically, Oofos Ooah Slides. I heeded her advice, and after a few weeks, happily informed my mother that my nagging plantar fasciitis pain finally quelled. But another pair of “recovery” shoes has been begging for my attention: The Crocs Mellow Recovery Slides. I know and love the Crocs very much, but does their recovery slide hold up to the gold standard? I put the two foamy slides to the test.

Meet the Expert

Dr. Anne Sharkey is a double board-certified podiatrist based in Austin, Texas. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science-Kinesiology. She obtained her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from the Dr. William M. School College of Podiatric Medicine in North Chicago, Illinois and completed her surgical residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chicago.

What Sets Oofos vs Crocs Slides Apart?

At first glance, both Oofos Recovery Slides and Crocs Mellow slides both look like slightly futuristic pool shoes—but there are a few differences. Oofos are made with the brand’s proprietary OOfoam™, which, the brand says, absorbs 37 percent more impact than traditional footwear foam and is designed to cradle arches and reduce stress on joints. Crocs’ version,is made with their signature LiteRide™ foam, branded as “Mellow™” are engineered for “ultra-soft, sink‑in comfort.” The Croc footbeds are “deep and cupped, with slow rebound sensation”—that is, cushy and cradling rather than springy. Both come in women and men’s sizes, are waterproof and easy to slip on, but they feel slightly different on the foot.

How I Tested The Shoes

To give each slide a fair shot, I wore the Oofos and Crocs on alternating days over a two-week period, chasing toddlers and standing for long stretches of time (hello, laundry day). I also paid attention to long-term comfort, pain relief, traction and how well they held up around the house and outside.

Oofos OOah Recovery Slide Review

What I Like

  • extremely comfortable
  • relieves pain

What I Don't Like

  • fewer colorways
  • more expensive
  • support diminishes with frequent wear

OOFOS

  • Value: 20/20
  • Functionality: 20/20
  • Ease of Use: 20/20
  • Aesthetic: 15/20
  • Foot Pain Antidote: 20/20
  • Total: 95/100

The feel: Like walking on a yoga mat—but the expensive type that molds around your feet. Oofos feel dense and light at the same time, absorbing impact and supporting my arch. I noticed my heels and arches immediately relaxed when I slipped them on.

The support: While they don’t look like much, the arch support is real. As someone who struggles with pronation, flat feet and occasional plantar fasciitis flare-ups, once I started wearing these around the house instead of going barefoot, my foot pain completely eased up. They also keep my ankles aligned in a way flip-flops never could.

The fit: Oofos doesn’t offer half sizes, so I sized down instead of up and was happy with my decision. I think these work better when snug on a bare foot. In fact, I don’t suggest wearing Oofos slides with socks because they lose their grip, and it winds up making your food contort to grasp onto the shoe.

The style: Are they cute? By a fashion standard…not really. Are they comfortable enough that I stopped caring? Absolutely. The minimal, molded design comes in solid neutrals and brights, and while you probably won’t pair them with a dress, they work with sweats, leggings or bike shorts.

The verdict: Worth the hype. The Oofos slides noticeably reduced soreness and became my go-to indoor shoes. They’re lightweight, easy to clean and surprisingly durable. I now pack them for travel and reach for them the second I get home from a long day. That said, since I wear them for hours every day, I have noticed that the support has diminished, so I recommend getting two pairs to switch between.

Crocs Mellow Recovery Slides Review

What I Like

  • over 15+ colorways
  • comfortable
  • on trend

What I Don't I Like

  • run very large
  • not as much support
  • prices vary across different vendors

Crocs

  • Value: 20/20
  • Functionality: 18/20
  • Ease of Use: 20/20
  • Aesthetic: 18/20
  • Foot Pain Antidote: 18/20
  • Total: 94/100

The feel: Cloud-like and comfy on first try. They’re firmer and less Tempurpedic-like, but still light and cozy.

The support: My feet need a lot of support, and while the Crocs slides are comfortable, they don’t have the arch support that keeps my ankles from pronating.

The fit: I suggest sizing down a full size. I usually size somewhere between a 9 and 9.5, and found the 9 too large. I swapped those for a size 8 and find them plenty comfortable and roomy.

The style: Wearing Crocs sometimes looks like you just stuck your foot in saltwater taffy, but that’s also kinda the look at the moment. The bubbly look of Crocs slides is definitely more fashion forward than the orthopedic Oofos.

The verdict: If you’re looking for an ultra-soft, cloud-like slide to lounge around in, the Crocs Mellow Recovery Slides deliver. They’re lighter and more style-forward than Oofos, with a cushy footbed that feels great for casual wear or giving your feet a break post-workout. That said, if you need serious arch support or have issues like overpronation or plantar fasciitis, Oofos are the better pick for functional recovery. I’d recommend the Crocs for cozy weekend wear, errands or as an upgrade from barefoot—but not as a full-on recovery tool.

Psst: My 'Speckled' Crocs Mellow Recovery slides are sold separately from other colors on the Crocs website and priced higher ($45).

Oofos vs. Crocs Recovery Slides Final Thoughts

If your main goal is recovery—especially from high-impact workouts or long days on your feet—Oofos are hard to beat. Their contoured footbed, deep heel cup and structured arch support help reduce stress on joints and promote proper alignment.

As podiatrist Dr. Sharkey explains: “Individuals with flat feet, overpronation, plantar fasciitis and joint pain are better suited to Oofos due to their better support. The more structured arch and contoured footbed, including a deep heel cup, help reduce strain on the plantar fascia.” In fact, Dr. Sharkey notes that in her clinical experience, “patients have seen better results with use of Oofos recovery slides. The combination of shock-absorbing foam and footbed contouring decreases pain and reduces pressure and stress applied to joints.”

Crocs’ Mellow Recovery Slides, while ultra-comfortable, are built differently. Their LiteRide™ foam provides a softer, sink-in feel with a more neutral footbed and less prominent arch. According to Dr. Sharkey, “Those with high arches, or those who find a less structured shoe more comfortable, may find the Crocs Mellow more suitable.”

Both brands prioritize comfort, but they serve different needs. Crocs Mellow slides are stylish and soft—great for lounging or low-impact recovery. But if you’re looking for something that does something for your feet—especially if you experience pain or need extra support—Oofos is the more functional, podiatrist-approved choice.
